The Visitor Center is full of cool gifts and factoids about Garden of the Gods, and you can pick up lunch for a decent price, as well. The center is rather large, and one can spend quite a bit of time perusing all the items in it.
There is also a great HD video visitors can view, which briefly explains the history and geology of the rock formations and surrounding area. The cost is $5.00 to see it, but I recommend partaking because the video really contains a lot of good information. There are also guided tours that folks can participate in, and information about those is available at the Garden of the Gods Visitor Center as well.
There is a paved pathway that leads all around the various red rocks at Garden of the Gods. Rock climbing with the proper gear is permitted, so there is a chance you'll see people high up on the rocks, scaling to a summit. Along the way, there are signs which relay facts about the sights, and there are plenty of good photo opportunities along the path.
Wherever you go in the park, the views are breath taking and the air is crisp. You'll enjoy huge natural rock formations and wildlife, usually in the form of birds sitting high on one of the massive formations. There are also seasonal Bighorn sheep that are not uncommon to see in the area.
For more information about Garden of the Gods, check out their website at: http://www.gardenofgods.com/home/index.cfm?flash=1 . The park is always free, there is zero entry fee to visit it, year round. You'll find out more about why when you get there. It's really neat.
