We broke the skin of the Earth
with metal teeth and hunger.
We planted tomatoes and peppers
and summoned the ladybugs
to devour the demons of the leaf.
with metal teeth and hunger.
We planted tomatoes and peppers
and summoned the ladybugs
to devour the demons of the leaf.
The sun poured gold
onto the mounds of hope
and the holes of fortitude.
We sucked the well of water
then purged it to the seed.
When tiny leaves uncoiled
and shook from their hands
the filth of their birth,
we rejoiced in the becoming--
the soon-to-be satiation
of our eager stomachs.
