Garden, at Night

April Fox
if i could blind myself back
turn my eyes inside out and see
only inside
in the dark
make the words shine
with some toxic chemical
radiant, dangerous
deadly the molecules
fighting each other for
space in my head while i
sorted them out
plucked the harsh and the vile
from the pool where they festered
and washed them with insight
and ripped contradiction
from the roots where they grew
i would plant them
somewhere
in the sun
late at night
while the moon watched
and laughed at my
insane attempts to grow
something from nothing
imagine the outcome
the beauty, the fruit that would
weigh down the branches
sustain us forever, grow
vines out to bind us and bathe us in
fragrance like
honey
and wine and we'd
settle down there
stretch our limbs toward the sky and dissolve
ourselves down
in something like lichen
or moss on the side
of a bridge where young lovers
stop
braving the cars that fly by just to steal
one more kiss from the day
that released them from where they had
hidden in silence
not saying the right words
not knowing that someday the words would come out
and they wouldn't be right
and the poison would soak in
through fingers lips tongues
and destroy them
before they began-
i would.
