Gardener's Supply Plant Stand Trio

Lilian Vaughan
I've been keeping my house plants on my window sills for a while, but since my window sills are quite narrow, the plants are precariously perched on them. Occasionally one falls or is knocked off. Besides that, my plants weren't very good for my woodwork.

I'd been thinking about getting a plant stand for a while when I ordered the Plant Stand Trio from Gardener's Supply Company. I chose it for its clean lines, low-maintenance steel construction, and large size. Consisting of three bench-shaped plant stands of various heights that nest together, it seemed large enough to hold my a substantial part of my plant collection. The company bills the product as having a "weather resistant finish" but I suspect that it will eventually rust if kept outside all summer.

The Plant Stand Trio lists for $169.00, but I paid substantially less for it by searching online for coupons. With the the coupon, I got free shipping and a discount.

The plant stand trio came packed flat in a large box. Parts for each of the three benches were wrapped separately, together, as if they were manufactured to be sold individually as well. The only tool required to assemble the Plant Stand Trio required, an allen wrench, was included in the box. Assembly took about an hour, with help from my 9-year-old. Although each piece can be assembled by a single person, it is helpful to have an extra pair of hands to hold parts still while screwing in the bolts.

The tallest stand fits nicely just under my window sill. I've nested the small one underneath with more plants, but moved the medium-sized plant stand to another window. All together, the Plant stand Trio provides about 7 or 8 linear feet of storage space for my plants.

The black plant stands are fairly sturdy and look nice enough to blend in well with my decor. The simple lines fit in well with modern or traditional furnishings, and the plant stands look nice enough to leave in the living room. On the smallest plant stand, one of the feet was a little loose. Because the slats on the plant stand are fairly far apart, a tray may be needed to hold a collection of small potted plants.

I recommend taping the allen wrench to the bottom of the plant stand, in an inconspicuous spot, to simplify disassembly later or in case screws need to be retightened.
