Here are some gardening tips that will help you make sure your plants get the water they need.
Different Plants Have Different Needs
When trying to determine how much to water your plants, you should first find out the specific needs of your plants. While all plants need water, some need more than others. For example, nature gave cacti have an amazing water storage system. So while a cactus needs water as much as any other plant, they are able to store the water they do get, and survive for months without rain. Impatiens, on the other hand, need plenty of water to thrive.
If you live in an area where water is at a premium, try to choose plants that don't need to be watered as often as others.
How Much Is Too Much
With humans, there's really no such thing as too much water. However, with some plants, too much water can do more harm than good. So while it's important to figure out how much water your plants need, you also need to know when enough is enough.
Of course, keeping track of how much water your plant is getting can be difficult. That is why a rain gauge is one of the most important tools in a gardener's arsenal. A rain gauge will show you how much water your plants have gotten naturally. You can use these measurements to determine how much more you should water your plants.
When to Water Your Plants
Here's one of the gardening tips many people overlook. When you water your plants can be just as important as how much water you give them. It is best to water your plants early in the morning, when it's cool out, or late in the evening, after the sun has gone down. If you water your plants in the middle of the day, the hot sun will cause a lot of it to evaporate before it has a chance to do much good for your plants.
Learning to water your plants correctly can make a huge difference in the health, strength and appearance of your plants, flowers, and vegetables. And these gardening tips will help you strike the right balance between watering your plants to much, and not watering them enough.
