Garfield Gets Real: New Movie Out in November

Bruce Bostwick
November 2007 seems to be the time for the 3rd and perhaps final movie in the Garfield trilogy. Garfield is one of the most recognizable cartoon characters and is currently in the comics. They are along with the Peanuts series something that got its fame through it and also was on cartoons. It ran from 1988 all the way until 1994 and was at times broadcasted on Boomerang and was on Cartoon Network in the last 10 years. This one however is going to be different than the previous two movies. To better understand, the 1st 2 were live action and had Garfield in Computer Generated for him to be able to speak and move his mouth. The 3rd movie however is set to go completely CG.

Is it popular or just a lazy way out? It really will depend on how it will come across. The familiar characters will be there, as Garfield, Odie, and Jon Arbuckle will be involved in another Garfield adventure. It is going to be called Garfield Gets Real or if it were numbered it would be Garfield 3. CG is going to be interesting to see how it gets pulled off but it will be able to get Garfield to look as realistic as possible. It is artificial no questions asked, sometimes you have to use it to get the effects you want right. For what it's worth, the Live-Action movies weren't that bad if you knew what Garfield was like. The main goal was to appeal to the younger audience and it accomplished that.

This movie however will be no different. The plot of the movie however is going to be Garfield gets tired of being in the comics and wants to go to the real world. It will have a twist where if he doesn't return to the comics, he'll be cancelled and someone is preventing him from returning. This is the 1st time it has been animated since the last episode in 1994 when there was the cartoon Garfield and Friends. Jim Davis, the man who wrote the comics, is going to be the one writing the movie and based upon his reputation of writing comics, it is probably going to be expected to be pretty good. Thinking closely about what to expect, it is going to be appeal to younger and perhaps people who remember the lazy cat, which loves Lasagna without question. Some of the humor that was seen on the show, for instance like him stealing Jon's food or kicking Odie off the table.Unlike the previous two Garfield movies, this is going to be a direct to DVD release. Most likely, there will be some theaters having it so check local listings on it. Will it be any good? It could be but it won't be known until it comes out. The best bet is to actually use your own judgment and decide for yourself. All that is known is that it will be coming soon.

I have only seen the first one and have the second one waiting on my DVR, but I wasn't impressed with the first one. I really hope this one is better. I grew up watching the Garfield cartoon and the movie just wasn't as good. Great article.

Well, hopefully this one will be better than the last two movies.
