Garry's Grill in Severna Park, MD Has Great Food and Service

Arthur Kirk
On a recent Saturday night my wife and I dined at Garry's Grill in Severna Park, MD, located on Baltimore-Annapolis Boulevard. This is the original Garry's Grill, and they have a sister restaurant in Glen Burnie, MD which I reviewed last year. The sister restaurant of Garry's Grill is now known under a new name which is Quarterfield Station. This was a rare Saturday night out for my wife and I without our two year old son for dinner, and the decision to go to Garry's Grill in Severna Park as a simple one for us as it is one of our favorite hidden gem restaurants.

Garry's Grill is Severna Park does not do a lot of advertising, therefore it was easy to be seated right away at 6:15 on a Saturday night. Most of the crowd there is either from the local community or people like my wife and I who stumbled upon the restaurant one time and return regularly.

After arriving our waitress presented our menus along with the specials of the day which are printed on a plain piece of paper. I inquired about the soup of the day which was a chorizo soup. She explained that the chorizo was more of a secondary ingredient in this broth soup and that there was more chicken in it along with mushrooms and tomatoes and the chorizo was mainly there to add spice. She even offered to bring us a small sample, but I told her that wasn't necessary as it sounded good to me. We also decided to order the mile high nachos.

The soup was very good, and exactly as our waitress described it. The spice of the chorizo was not overpowering, but it did add some nice flavor to the soup. There indeed was more chicken than chorizo but in the end it was a very good soup. The mile high nachos had tortilla chips, chili, tomatoes, cheddar cheese, and guacamole and sour cream on the side as I requested. These were very good as well, but not overly remarkable.

My wife ordered the Chesapeake Tortellini from the daily specials. It was a combination of crab meat, lobster, and tortellini in a cream based Cajun sauce. It arrived at the time very hot, proving at Garry's Grill in Severna Park, MD they don't let their food sit around. The timing was perfect She was very happy with this selection. We had indulged in the appetizers though and she ended up bringing half of the entrée home for dinner the next evening.

I choose the Hawaiian pulled pork sandwich and was pleased with my meal as well. It was served on a Kaiser roll with a sweet and spicy sauce that actually tasted a little like some bottled varieties I have had in the past. The pulled pork sandwich was topped with pineapple and cheddar cheese. The sandwich was not huge, but very filling.

We were both very full from the appetizers and our meals so we did not order dessert on this occasion at Garry's Grill in Severna Park, MD. They have a great selection of homemade pies and cakes though in their glass display case. In the past I have had their key lime pie and it was nice and tart with a flaky crust. It is highly recommended.

So, if you are ever in the Baltimore or Annapolis, MD areas, and want a nice meal you should visit Severna Park which is between the two. Garry's Grill located there is a great choice and you can find a selection to meet any type of budget as well as they have entrees, salads, soups and sandwiches to choose from.

  • Be careful, it's easy to load up on appetizers there leaving little room for your meal.
