He seemed to come out of nowhere. And he came to take country music and the music industry in general by storm.
He wasn't the typical looking star. He wasn't slim, well built or even classy. But he had his own style, the style America came to love. He rocked country music singing songs about working people, real people and adding some different sounds to what was once considered country music. His kind of country music had more beats, sort of a rock sound. It was the kind of music America was wanting. And it changed the country music industry, much the way Elvis and the Beatles changed the rock industry.
In the 1990's he was the star among stars. He had over 70 hit singles and over 100 million of his albums sold in the United States alone.
Garth Brooks was a country idol. His albums flew up the charts and his concerts (with their upbeat energy) were all packed.
It wasn't long before, America wanted to be country. You could hear songs like Friends in Low Places, Thunder Rolls, Unanswered Prayers, What She's Doing Now, and We Shall Be Free, through out the country.
Garth Brooks also won many awards. His first Grammy was awarded to him in 1992 for Best Male Country Vocal performance. He also won the Academy of Country Music Award (ACM) for Entertainer of the Year for the years of 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, and 1998. He won the ACM's Top Male Vocalist Award in 1990 and 1991.
Then America gasped when on October 26, 2000 Garth Brooks officially announced that he was going to retire. He would not do any more recording or performing at least until his youngest daughter turned 18.
On November 13, 2001 his album Scarecrow (an all ready recorded mix) was released. He did a few performances for promotional purposes.
But then it was like he had vanished. America still listened to his songs on the radio. But there was no public performances between the years of 2002 and most of 2005.
Then suddenly in late May of 2005, Garth Brooks name was again heard after he proposed to his girlfriend and fellow country music start, Trisha Year wood.
In August 2005, news reports stated that Garth Brooks had split with Capital recordings and that he had signed a deal with the shopping chain Wal-Mart to sell The Limited Series, a six Cd box set containing past material and material from a lost session disc that contained 11 unissued recordings. In December of 2005, the Cd set was released and sold 500,000 physical copies on its first day of sale.
In September 2005, Garth Brooks performs for a telethon for Hurricane Relief. Then he released a new single Good Ride Cowboy, a tribute to his late friend and fellow country music singer, Chris Ledoux. He also performed at the Grand O'le Opry's 80th Birthday celebration.
On November 15, 2005, Garth Brooks sang in Times Square as part of the CMA awards show.
On Dec. 10th of 2005, Garth Brooks and Trisha Yerwood wed.
Also during the month of December, all could see Garth on the television sets, during commercials, helping to promote Wal-Mart and his Cd set.
Since then his newest song Good Ride Cowboy has reached the position as number one song on the country charts.
With all of this new activity, one can't help but wonder, Garth have you really retired or have you all ready started your comeback? Considering the fact that your fan base is still strong, radio still plays your songs and that you were given the nickname Garth Vadar, due to how rapidly you invaded the country music charts, you can clearly see America still loves you and your music. This fan dearly hopes the answer is yes and your comeback has all ready begun.
