Gary Coleman Dead at Age 42

Gary Coleman Dies Friday at Age 42

Gary Coleman, star of the hit sitcom Diff'rent Strokes, has passed away on Friday at age 42. Coleman was admitted into Utah Valley Regional Medical Center in Provo after suffering an intracranial hemorrhage earlier this week. Gary Coleman was lucid until Thursday afternoon, but then slipped into a coma. His family made the painful decision to take him off life support Friday evening.

Gary Coleman's career after Diff'rent Strokes has been more of a tabloid star than anything else, though he did manage to hold down a mall security guard job and a short lived run a California governor. Compared to his fellow Diff'rent Strokes child stars, Gary has lived a cleaner and more respectful life, though his death is still a tragic blow to the comedy community as a whole.

It is always surprising when someone like Coleman dies suddenly and young. We bring actors into our living rooms, weekly and they become sort-of like one of the family. When the show ends, we miss them or enjoy watching re-runs the character frozen in time. Tend to forget that the person behind the character grew up a long time ago.

What surprises me is that, in view of the *possibility* (no accusation, just a real possibility) that his wife could have been involved, they still allowed her to RAPIDLY "pull the plug" on her husband. I never was a Coleman fan, except I enjoy his role in the computer game, "The Curse of Monkey Island" - a truly fun game.
