Gas grill maintenance can be quite easy, as long as you perform periodic cleaning at the right times and clean up after each use. A quick burn-off and wipe down of the grill after cleaning will go a long way to reducing the amount of yearly gas grill maintenance that must be done. Here are a few gas grill maintenance tips to keep your cookouts running smoothly all season long.

Gas grill maintenance: Seasonal cleaning

At the start and end of each grilling season, give your gas grill a complete cleaning. Empty your gas grill's interior tray by dumping the residue out from the bottom hole of the grill, using a bucket to catch the debris. Clean off any accumulated grease with a mixture of warm water and mild soap. If your gas grill's lid has become stained by smoke, scrub it off with a steel wool pad. However, you should not use steel wool on your gas grill if it is made from stainless steel as this will cause scratching. Clean off the gar grill's control panel with your soap/water mixture and steel wool, if necessary. Allow everything to dry completely before reassembling the trays and drip pans. You can also use a soft towel to dry the grill by hand.

Gas grill maintenance: Paint issues

The paint on your gas grill is usually rated to withstand a great deal of heat. Check your owner's manual carefully if you intend to do any paint-related gas grill maintenance. Sometimes grills get banged around and scraped and need a bit of touch-up paint. Be sure to always use the right rating of paint and do not spray any of the paint inside the gas grill. Another common paint problem is caused by using oven cleaner when cleaning out the grill. Some types of oven cleaners will remove the grill's paint along with the dirt.

Gas grill maintenance: Clean up after each use

Of course, performing certain cleaning tasks every time you cook will reduce the amount of seasonal gas grill maintenance that must be done. Each time you grill, clean off the food and grease residue from your grill. The easiest way to do this is to simply burn the residue off by running the grill for a few minutes after the food is done. After that, you can easily brush off the remaining debris with a stiff grilling brush. Clean off your cooking utensils after each grilling to prevent grease from accumulating. Wipe down the outside of your grill immediately if food or grease is spilled on it.
