Gas Prices Finally Decline

Finally, a Little Relief at the Pumps

LMG
How long has it been since we've seen gas prices closer to $3.50 a gallon, rather that closer to $4.00? After months and months of steadily climbing gas prices, we are finally seeing a bit of relief.

According to CNNMoney.com, gas prices have fell again today to make it a steady nineteen day decline in prices. The national average for a gallon of gas today was $3.871. This is still a dollar higher than the national average last year at this time. However, even being higher, I think I speak for all of us when I say we're glad to see this drop in prices. According to this site, this is the nineteenth day straight that gas prices have declined.

The record high gas price, according to AAA was $4.114 a gallon in June of this year.

Diesel fuel on the other hand, did not see as much of a drop in prices. Those prices are still over $4.50 an a national average. I'm sure this is hurting our trucking industry greatly.

Ethanol prices climbed to $3.142 a gallon on a national average, according to AAA an d CNNMoney.com.

Relief at the pumps is nice for most of us, that's no doubt. High gas prices have caused many of us to stay home this summer rather than travel. It has also made a lot of people to make less trips to the store, or anywhere, for that matter. I feel that the majority of us have had to learn how to make every trip to the store really count so we have to make less trips.

Although gas prices have dropped a bit, I wonder how many of us are leery of the prices sky-rocketing again? I have noticed somewhat of a trend with gas prices in recent years. They seem to sky-rocket, then plummet a bit, then level off for a while at a level that is higher than the low point, yet lower, but not much lower than the low point. Most people see the prices drop and hurry up to fill their tanks, and somewhat keep them filled while the prices are down, yet, we all hesitate a bit when prices go up. We don't quite put as much gas in our tanks because we are hoping that prices will drop again.

No, prices aren't nearly as low as they were when I was a kid, but they are lower than they were yesterday. I think inevitably they will rise again, and before we know it, $3.50 for a gallon of gas will be just a memory. I propose that we all just continue to enjoy life in the more simplistic ways, rather than continue to contribute to the system of supply and demand that is undoubtedly contributing to rise in fuel costs. The prices may be down, for now, but they will rise again.
