Gas Smell in Palo Alto
Neighborhood: Palo Alto
San Jose, CA 94301
United States of America
Wednesday, November 3rd the smell of gas in Palo Alto permeated the air. After the explosion in San Bruno, gas in the air unnerves Palo Alto residents. The City of Palo Alto confirmed that the gas was coming from a controlled release. PG&E has recently stepped up their gas line inspections due to the San Bruno tragedy. In order to execute the gas line inspection, they must release "a significant amount of gas," according to city officials.

The inspection is along the transmission system that encompasses areas of both Palo Alto and Mountain View. While the smell tends to linger, there "is no danger to the public," according to city officials. More releases are likely as they continue the inspection. The smell is due to the purging of air from the pipeline.

If you have questions about gas pipeline work, or have concerns, safety is always the priority. Call PG&E at 1-800-743-5000. 24/7
