Gaslamp: To Go and Not to Go!

San Diego's Gaslamp is known for its dozens of bars providing a one of a kind 'bar-hopping' experience. There are few that can keep you in their grips, for more than a drink or two, before it's on to the next. But there seems to be a new mic slinging sheriff in town. The gorgeous Heather Williams of the country western bar Double Deuce taught a well deserved lesson to group of us girls this weekend.

Our master event planner, my best friend Juliet, decided to spice up the typical 'bar hopping' evening in Gaslamp by creating clues leading us to our next destination. All in celebration of a phallic free bachelorette party for our girlfriend, originally from Texas, who is getting married in a few weeks. So dressed in the best western gear our country challenged closets could manage and sparkly cowgirl hats we set out for the evening. After several stops at the typical bars we found ourselves on our way to the Whiskey Girl. On our walk we heard a few people mention the Double Deuce. It was then that we came across Kyle who stopped us on the street to tell us he would be leaving one job for another and working at the Double Deuce later, we should stop by. With so much talk of this new bar and Kyle's convincing, we strayed from our original plan, headed over and never left.

While the Whiskey Girl is an excellent bar, the Double Deuce is giving its big sister a run for her money. From the moment we came through the door where we met Heather we were amazed. The staff and bartenders were so fun, easy going, and aiming to please. Heather made sure that the bride to be was embarrassed enough to hold onto the memory with a smile, not shame, and a story to tell.

The Double Deuce is located at 528 F Street and offers a large 2 story main bar area and a separate room with a remarkable live band and dancing. From drinks, to singing on their stage and two-stepping this is certainly the best bar to visit in the Gaslamp area.

If you're looking for a place to stay in the area, stay as far as possible from the Hard Rock. While this hotel is pretty to look at, it unfortunately provides horrendous service. I was completely appalled by their lack of organization and incompetent management. Instead head to the Marriott which has 2 excellent, beautiful hotels that are worth the money you pay. Check out the Courtyard San Diego Downtown and San Diego Marriott Gaslamp Quarter. I have stayed at both and have had an excellent experience.
