This is not acceptable. If you remember one of my previous articles you will recall that Brazil is currently independent of the need for any foreign oil. I still think that America needs to put on its big boy pants and follow suit. But since we know that this is not going to happen anytime soon I thought that I would give some advice as to how you can save some money on your fuel costs.
Of course there is the obvious. You can always buy more economical vehicle. My favorite out right now is the Toyota Yaris. This thing actually gets 40 miles per gallon. This means that you would be able to drive from Philadelphia to New York City for right about 2.5 gallons of gas. You can't beat that! Just taking the train from Philly to NYC could easily cost you $20. And at a price at below $13,000, this car is both friendly to your gas budget, and to your wallet.
Okay, so I know that it is not possible for all of us to go out and buy a new car. That's find we can work with what you have. Most cars are actually programmed to their greatest fuel efficiency around 55 miles per hour. So you can be blowing your fuel if you are driving too slow or too fast. This should be some incentive to hurry the heck up for those of you who drive 40 MPH in the fast lane.
One thing that I just do not understand is when you are at a red light, and it turns green. The car next to you shoots off like a bad out of hell, only to be waiting right next to you at the red light on the next block. This drains fuel! I mean come on follow the speed limit, and drive like a normal person, and this will save you some money as well.
Don't forget the all popular car pool. It does not have to be the uncomfortable ride that you see in television shows. Get together with some friends, and share the ride to work. Each week have a different person drive, and use their car. This will help you conserve gas, save some money, and get some good gossip in before getting to the office.
We can all learn how to save money on gasoline; it just takes a little planning. It is hopefully only a short time till we can add our country to the list of those that are no longer impacted by the need for foreign oil.
