Gateway Gt 5220 Computer Review

Two years ago I purchased this almost top of the line personal computer for about $750 with monitor. The first problem I had with it came after a year and the warranty was up. The hard drive crashed. I had to start all over. Then just recently, the letters on my monitor were getting kind of faded and not sharp in color like they were before.

I had it checked out by a computer professional and the verdict was a bad video card. I took his advice and purchased a new video card. With the exact one he recommended it was installed. After that I operating system would not boot up. The computer would not fire up. So I put the old one back in and took it to a computer professional. He said he put a different video card in which he new had worked and the operating system still would not boot up. All that would happen is the fan would work fast and furious.

Now I have 2 different computer professionals telling me that my motherboard is probably shot and it is almost $300 for that kind. I have been looking for other options, but nothing worth a try yet. I definitely don't think it is worth spending that much for a motherboard, when I just purchased a non name brand computer for $340 which is faster than my Gateway GT5220.

I have researched Gateway GT 5220 online and there have been several problems with this model. Some similar to my problem. The motherboard cannot be just replaced by another one, it has to be a certain kind which is expensive and not easy to replace. I called Gateway and they took 20 minutes to basically say sorry can't help you unless you purchased the extended warranty. I asked where can I get help with this. They said to find any computer professional goodbye. I was disappointed in their service and in the products. Now I have this computer that hasn't lasted very long and looks practically new just sitting here collecting dust. If I could just a one part replaced I know it would be usable again. Besides the hard drive messing up and the system not turning on, it actually ran pretty decent. I will just keep my eyes open for any ideas or motherboards that would replace mine. One thing is I don't recommend any Gateway products or services in the near future from my experience.
