A few weeks ago I was fortunate to work for a construction company and my job was a labor in very extreme hot temperatures outside in manholes. During the first couple of days I didn't know why water was not giving me enough strength to continue, when I had my blood checked and had a full physical done on me before starting this new job. Then all those commercials of Gatorade came to my mind and I decided to buy some Gatorade to bring to work which I did. When I got to work the next day I put the few Gatorade drinks I had in a cooler with some ice. At about twelve at noon the sun was up and the temperature was at 105F and by that time I felt like I was about to pass out. So then I drank a large Gatorade and to my surprise I was back in shape within a few minutes of drinking this drink. The whole day was a breeze I felt good and ready to work the next day. But, I only drank one Gatorade drink that day and I kept on drinking water the rest of the day because drinking too much sugar water can be bad for your blood.
I then looked at the ingredients on the label of the Gatorade bottle and to find out salt was one of the main ingredients, and to my knowledge salt helps us keep fluids retained in our bodies. I'm sure it was the salt in Gatorade that helped me out, but I'm sure the manufactures of Gatorade put other vitamins that help in mental concentration and fatigue.
For now on I will always carry some Gatorade when I travel to the beach, or maybe a hot park or run on the track.
