Gay Bashing, the Super Bowl, Prince, the Internet, Ann Coulter, Trump, and Maturity
When Did Any of These Things Become Acceptable?
"prince has no talent and has no reason to be preforming the halftime show it was horrible and he needs to sing some of his own song instead of taking them from other artists and ruining them"
"he suck enough said"
"prince just ruined the sb halftime show of 07"
"he sucks weres ms janet lol i dont care but they needed some one in now music"
"That was a suck ass halftime show. He totally killed the Foo Fighters song. I can't believe they went with him. There were so many better people to choose from."
"prince is gay."
"well he had no right to sing the FooFighters, but anyways...... he should kill himself."
"Yes it blew moose dong all ya heard was his F###### Geetarr no one else and the Foofighters should cut his little balls for what he did to there song WTF"
Yeah those were just some of the hateful quotes on a message board. It pissed me off. I'm not a huge Prince fan, but I'm thankful for what he has done for music. I can't believe how ignorant people are. Prince is cool. He is an inspiration to a lot of "now" artists. He is a talented song writer which speaks volumes against today's pop music. I'm not saying new artists never wrote anything good but face it; they are the flavor of the week. Prince has reinvented himself time and time again, which is what pop music is all about. He's a bit eccentric, but all artists are. They say he's stupid and gay, but most of them can't even spell. I'm 21 years old, so I was in diapers while Prince was at his peak, but good music is timeless. Stop hating and look around. Most of the newer artists out there right now are just cashing in on what the pioneers of music already gave us. Just because newer computers can make more interesting bleeps and bloops in pop music doesn't give them an edge. We need artists not good voices. Bob Dylan didn't have a great voice, but he was a great artist. We need to get back to what music is at the core. Nothing these rip-off artists are doing right now would be possible if artists like Prince hadn't shown them how to do it.
Money does talk and most of the time shit does walk, but look around right now and tell me that if the '80s music scene had never happened you would have all the glam and glitter that Fall Out Boy, The Killers, and most certainly Panic At The Disco and others exploit in their videos and songs. The '80s are all over that. The make-up, the synths, the glamor jewelry and clothes, all that was started by Bowie in the '70s and Brit-Punk Rock and carried over into the 80's with Prince and many more. A Song writer is the main point to me. Prince writes songs that other artists are amazed by. That's an artist.
Prince started out singing about sex and stuff like that, but now in his newer albums he sings about life and spirituality, which is something that will be more important to you than sex, drugs, and alcohol when you get older and more mature. When kids in the pop bands sing about deeper things it comes across shallow and stupid, because they don't even know what they want in life yet. I'm a huge Guns 'N Roses fan since I was 5, and I love "Appetite For Destruction," which is a dirty and awesome rock album, however I loved that they were more sensitive with Use Your Illusion, when everyone else shit on them for it. Most people's taste grows up, which is why when they mature, they probably won't listen to those guys, and the band will probably die, because they won't grow with the fans like Prince has for his following. Maturity really has nothing to do with age, because I've met some stupid adults and some damn smart teens, it has a lot to do with what you want out of life and how much you care about issues and those around you. Sometimes life forces you to grow up faster. I don't judge people because of their age. Hell, I'm not much past being a teen, but I do get disgusted by the hatred and dissatisfaction some have with other people's opinions.
What's stupid about message boards is that everyone argues, but because it isn't face to face they feel so brave to insult and act like a bastard. It just makes them sound like an idiot when they are hateful to someone over the net for no reason. They would be embarrassed later if this were face to face. They should be now. They would most likely have their asses handed to them in a fight if they acted like that to the average person on the street. Grow up. Have fun, but understand that there is more to life than calling everyone you disagree about music with a fagot. Also, teens, not everything is for you, and older people, not everything teens like sucks. It just doesn't speak to you like your music doesn't to them. I don't understand the average young adult's fear of things pre-1999, but to each his and her own. I love discussing this; I just wish others could talk back with a bit of tact.
Politics are no better of course. Ann Coulter is a good example. Just because you disagree politically with someone, doesn't give you the right to use slurs against them. In most work places that would have been illegal. It should be for her too. The fact is, she has acted like an idiot. She is acting like a bitch. I think she realizes that, but it doesn't give her the right to say those kinds of things. I'm glad she's catching so much heat for it. It is too bad Trump doesn't catch more flak as well. I don't like Rosie, but someone like Trump, who prides himself as being upper-class should act like an adult. It goes to show you that college, intelligence, and money doesn't give you class or make you a good person.
