Gay is in; Clay Aiken and Lindsay Lohan Are Out
Suddenly Being Gay (Or Bisexual) Has Become Quite the Trend
Hot on the heels of the Aiken outing is the news that actress Lindsay Lohan has admitted to dating DJ Samantha Ronson. Rumors of the relationship have been circulating for over a year. Lohan told Ted Stryker, radio personality and co-host of the syndicated call-in talk show "Loveline," in a phone interview that the two had been dating for over a year.
So Clay Aiken And Lindsay Lohan Are Gay... Who Else?
Gay is in. Being gay is so in that everybody is doing it these days. Rarely a day goes by when the internet, the tabloids, and the entertainment news shows aren't outing someone or announcing someone outing themselves.
But it does cause a stir in the mainstream media, regardless. Take, for instance, Megan Fox' recent admission in GQ magazine that she not only was infatuated with a Russian stripper but also thought "House" star Olivia Wilde was "sexy" and someone with which she could have a relationship.
Said Neil Giuliano, president of the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, "We congratulate Clay for making this decision and for setting an example for others and his family. As we're seeing, more and more gay people, including celebrities, are living openly and honestly, and this has tremendous impact in terms of creating awareness, understanding and acceptance."
George Takei, the inscrutable weapons officer on "Star Trek," married his partner, Brad Altman, in June.
Last month, Ellen Degeneres married her longtime partner Portia de Rossi in a highly publicized ceremony. Degeneres asked Senator John McCain on her talk show to walk her down the aisle, but he was a no-show.
Lindsay Lohan and DJ Ronson issued a statement in early September condemning Senator McCain's choice for vice president, Sarah Palin. Lohan stated: "I find it quite interesting that a woman who now is running to be second in command of the United States only four years ago had aspirations to be a television anchor, which is probably all she is qualified to be."
She then attacked Palin's stance on several other sexuality issues. "Is it a sin to be gay? Should it be a sin to be straight? Or to use birth control? Or to have sex before marriage? Or even to have a child out of wedlock?
"Is our country so divided that the Republicans' best hope is a narrow-minded, media-obsessed homophobe?"
Clay Aiken, who has recorded several multi-platinum albums and is currently starring on Broadway in "Monty Python's Spamalot," told People that he just could not hide his homosexuality any longer. A born-again Christian, Aiken fears that he might lose some of his Christian fans because of his decision to announce openly his lifestyle and for fathering his son, Parker Foster Aiken, outside of marriage.
Apparently, being a gay Christian is in as well.
Katy Perry, the contemporary Christian artist, admitted publicly to bi-curious thoughts and rode her very public "I Kissed A Girl" single to notoriety and fame earlier this year. Even though The Daily Mail, an English newpaper, reported that Katy Perry's parents, both evangelical preachers, found the song shameful and disgusting, Perry told MTV that what was reported was "false information." Said the 23-year-old star, "Of course, they have their own opinions, but you can never take a tabloid seriously. If they weren't supportive, they wouldn't come to all the shows. People like to make games out of other people's lives."
Contemporary Christian singer/songwriter Ray Boltz has admitted that he is gay earlier as well. The 55-year-old artist, who has recorded 16 albums and sold nearly 5 million units, told the Washington Blade that the admission has been hard on his family but they had worked their way through it. Finding acceptance in the Christian community is another thing altogether. "This is what it really comes down to," Boltz says. "If this is the way God made me, then this is the way I'm going to live. It's not like God made me this way and he'll send me to hell if I am who he created me to be ... I really feel closer to God because I no longer hate myself."
Reverend Jerry Falwell is spinning so fast in his grave that they're considering hooking him up to a turbine generator as an alternative fuel source.
Stay tuned. There will undoubtedly be another outing or admission soon...

What kind of a dismissive statement is that to make? "But if you don't believe the Bible, then I guess it doesn't matter what you believe anyway." What a crock. Half the planet does not believe what the bible says. The bible is just a guide book. You know, like "Philosophy for Dummies." Don't steal, don't kill, don't screw your neighbor's wife. Good rules. But every other religion has the same ones. But it does matter what I believe. Just as much as what you believe. And my neighbor, who is Catholic. And the guy across the street, who is Hindu. It matters. It all matters. I just choose not to force what I believe on another human being, nor will I even insinuate that someone should adopt my belief system. On top of that, I am not so arrogant as to think that my beliefs trump others' beliefs, although I do hold out on the notion that quite a few are misguided and mentally screwed up because of their particular religion...
Wow, anyone who would give ear to Lohan for political advise, is NOT ready to vote for our next president! In fact, let me just state that as far as political advise of any kind from entertainment's "elite" should be ignored.
Gay? You mean he's happy? I would be too if I had a successful music career.
Oh! You mean he's a homosexual. So what? I don't care about (or even believe) the "coming out" statements of some people any more. Most of these are people who aren't getting enough attention and have to get their fill somehow. Pathetic.
@ Pat Burroughs: Good point. Just look at human anatomy. Without being too graphic, let me just say some parts were not meant to function with other parts. It's so obviously against the design of the human body (you don't have to believe in God to see that).
@Leora Mae: That is very, very flawed logic. Many times children copy the behavior of their parents because that's how they think people are supposed to act. But still it is learned behavior. We have homosexuals and pedophiles because there is some poor parenting taking place. Find the nearest homosexual and ask him about his relationship with his father. Chances are it wasn't good. The same goes for f
Ya think?
Like there was any question about his sexual orientation.....HE'S FLAMING!!! HELLO??
In the wake of Clay Aiken's surprise announcement, I have an announcement of my own to share ... I'm Black. I just didn't think I could live with myself, or raise my future children, if I didn't admit that to myself and the WHOLE world (even if EVERYBODY knew it already) ...
Saul, I feel really, really sorry for those who are gay. I don't claim to know what causes it. But God doesn't make people gay, because He's opposed to the gay lifestyle. It's even against the laws of nature. But if you don't believe the Bible, then I guess it doesn't matter what you believe anyway.
Gay isn't "suddenly" in. There's no trend. There have always been people who are sexually attracted to their same gender. To come out just isn't shocking anymore, nor should it be. It's sad that celebs feel they have to make a proclamation or hide in the closet.
As for the comment equating AIDS to homosexuals - anyone can contract HIV and AIDS. Just being gay and having a relationship doesn't give one the disease.
I think the Book of Romans was written by a homophobic MAN, Pat. Prove me wrong... Oh, that's right. You can't...
