Gay Marriage and Why This Christian Supports it

How a Christian Can Support Gay Marriage

TheReader
My faith is a huge part of my life. It wasn't always such an integral part of me, but after dealing with the unexpected death of a very close family member; struggling to help a friend who was abused by her father; and then dealing with a severe bout of depression during my freshman year of college, I have come to realize how much I need Christ in my life. I firmly believe that as a Christian, I am called to share my Savior's love and to follow the principles He laid out in the Bible. Because of this, and because my faith is not supportive of the homosexual cause, many people would probably be surprised to hear that I am a proponent of gay marriage; I also find no conflict between my faith and the issue of gay marriage. If you find this to be an interesting (or maddening) contradiction, keep reading.

Firstly, there is an undeniable separation between church and state. Regardless of a person's person beliefs regarding a particular issue, separation has to be maintained. If there is a law prohibiting gay marriage, why not a law prohibiting spouses from having affairs with other people? Why not a law prohibiting sex before marriage? These are all moral issues, but laws are not made to enforce morality; they are created for the protection of citizens. They are not created to enforce a particular church's beliefs; they are created on behalf of the state to both defend rights and guard the population. Therefore, even if someone was convinced that homosexuality was wrong, they would have no right to impose that belief on the entire nation.

I am also concerned that allowing government to decide who a person can marry could have very serious ramifications. Do we truly want so much power in hands of imperfect humans? As a Christian, I readily recognize the fallibility of mankind. We make mistakes every day and no one is exempt. President Bush makes mistakes, former President Clinton made mistakes, the Pope has made mistakes, Gandhi made mistakes, and so has every single person on Earth. Given the nature of human beings, does it make sense to give equally flawed men and women in our government the power to decide who can marry whom? I am convinced it would be a disastrous move to allow this kind of power into corruptible humans.

When making difficult decisions, it is always difficult to keep person prejudices aside. However, it is imperative to remain objective despite personal feelings. Because of this, I strongly encourage you, no matter what your political affiliation or religious beliefs, to support gay marriage. I do.

P.S. No, I'm not a "crazy" liberal; I'm a Republican!

"Christians" believe in getting OUT of sin. Homosexuality is a sin, (as stated by many famous preachers, pastors, writers, and by the Bible) then Christians should encourage to get OUT of sin, not support it. Come on now, Christianity 101! Sin is sin, weither it's drunkeness, lust, fornication, adultry, idoltry, hate, malice, and more.

As a nation under God we shouldn't be supporting homosexuality period, but praying for those who find they have to have homosexual intercourse. God still loves them though, but a person can't enter the kingdom rebelling against Him.

God isn't asking Christians to hate homosexuals nor force them to do right. Again it's up to them to make the choice of going to Heaven or living in sin (Homosexuality is a sin). He also doesn't expect homosexuals to just stop liking the same sex. All he asks is that they not have intercourse. When Christians say same sex marriage is a sin, it is because he states a married couple is suppose to engage in sexual intercourse. Same sex intercourse is a sin. Homosexuals should not be treated any different though. By the way the civil rights have nothing to do with God's laws. Civil rights are human made and shouldn't over shadow what God states.

It states in the Bible that anyone who acts in such sinful activity, including same sex marriage and intercourse in the message, will not enter the gates in heaven. No justifications. We claiming to be God's worshipers, it's our job to warn people about it sins and help the sinners. God doesn't want us to look down on the sinners though but encourage them with love and NOT HATRED to do right. The homosexual has to choose rather if he or she wants to go to Heaven or not. It says it all in the Bible.

Sherri Thornhill, have you read the Bible? Look up 1 Corinthians 6:9 and Leviticus 18:22.
"'Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman; that is detestable. " God does have a view on the subject, and in Genesis He actually destroyed cities (Sodom and Gomorrah) because of their disgusting homosexual and sinful behavior.

But do you support homosexuality itself? If you do, you should not call yourself a follower of Christ, as it says in the His Word that homosexuals will not inherit the kingdom of heaven (1 Corinthians 6:9--look it up).

And since I attacked spelling, I misspelled in my own comment. That's called Karma. Like gravity, it isn't mentioned in the Bible, but you will find it exists, anyway.

Thank you, Reader. Britney - marriage is not a Christian union. You are perhaps unaware that pretty much everyone else, even convicted murderers, even Atheists, all over the world, regardless of religion are allowed to get married? Since you can't spell church or capitalize Christian, perhaps you really weren't aware of these things, but now you are. The 10 Commandments does not mention gays, but it does mention adultery. As Reader mentioned, where is the law banning cheaters from tying the knot? It is not for the law to decide morality. Bible says that in heaven we neither marry nor or given in marriage so what possible difference does it make to so-called family values groups whether or not gays are allowed to marry?
