Gays Vs. Ignorance of Society

"Gay rights"? The fact that we have an entire separate category of rights for people who are homosexuals is sickening to me. Why shouldn't they have the same rights as everyone else? They are humans, so they simply deserve the ability to love and live with whomever they choose, case closed. They are people just like heterosexuals are. It appalls me that the government truly believes it is their "job" to tell gays how they are "allowed" to live their lives and who they are "allowed" to share their lives, happiness, and love with. What makes those setting these "laws" so high and mighty? They are just everyday people just like we all are who happen to have a job with the government. They are ordinary people who also have families, ups and downs, health issues and concerns, and who wake up cranky and drink coffee to wake up in the morning. Really, we are no different, so why do they think they can tell other people how to love and who to love? That's the silliest, most ignorant thing I've ever heard.

It is downright embarrassing and sad that we waste time and money on this "issue." It's not an issue. These arguments should not even exist. The idea that being gay is a negative stemmed from some heterosexual somewhere way back when, and people have been brainwashed ever since to believe that this is right because, well, "that's just the way it's supposed to be." Says who?? Just like prejudice against blacks was a huge problem, the same concept lies in this gay rights issue - Narrow-minded people brainwashing others to believe "It's this way or the highway. We are right and all others that pose a different way of being are wrong." But then people started to fight for their rights because they knew this wasn't fair, and that they are humans just like everyone else, just with a different skin color. People fought and a change in attitude around our country slowly arose, and whites began becoming more accepting of blacks over time.

Same exact concept applies to gays.

People are against and repulsed by the idea of homosexuality because they've been taught to think that way. If we lived in a world where no one ever put that idea in our minds, no one would even think twice about it. We would just live in a world where some people have relationships with the same sex, some with the opposite sex, and some with both. And that's just the way it is. But now, because someone planted the "nay to gay" seed way back in the day and somehow got others to follow it, this deeply rooted prejudice against gays has spiraled out of control. If the belief that being a heterosexual is wrong was planted instead, then today, heterosexuals would be shunned. Think about it.

Sexual orientation has NO place in government. They have no right to tell people who they can love, live, and die with. Why does the government seriously think they have the legal right to discriminate against the gays, telling them that they cannot legally get married and cannot legally serve in the military?

I cannot believe gays serving in the military is even an issue. Here we have people willing to fight and put their lives at risk for our country, and the government is turning them away? It should not come down to the category of sexual orientation, rather the physical ability to perform in the military and to do the job efficiently. People against allowing gays in the military state that they fear the gays will make others uncomfortable and affect the morale and ability to do the best job they can do. Gays are not savages, PEOPLE are. It comes down to the person's personality and values, not their sexual orientation. So if the government decides that a person is not fit to serve, it should be because they do not possess the physical and psychological qualities it takes to serve the country, not because they are gay. Just because a person is gay doesn't guarantee that they are going to stare other men down or rape them at night. That's a ridiculous way to think. Homo or hetero, it doesn't matter. The concept is the same. If the person is a savage, they are a savage. Has nothing to do with their sexual orientation, but everything to do with their values and personality traits as a human being. Should the women in the military expect and be concerned that there could be creepy men staring them down and harassing them or making them feel uncomfortable? Well, only if those men are creepers by nature. Has nothing to do with their sexual orientation, but all to do with their personality traits.

People really need to start reflecting upon the way they treat gays and why they shun them. For most, it is because that's just what they were taught to believe. But this is a silly and ignorant way to think, especially in this day and age. Open your eyes and realize we are all humans and all have differences, and no one person's way is the right way. We have no right to tell other people how they "have to" or are "allowed" to live their lives just because we said so. No one is THAT high and mighty, not even in the government. We are all just people living in the same world. Start seeing this world in a different perspective, and realize that there is more out there than what we know, want, and expect it to be. And that is okay.
