GDER: Gays Deserve Equal Rights

Casey C
Gays deserve equal rights: You would think after years of it being known that gays do exist; we would have equal rights by now. Who is one to say what we can or can't do? Most of us are adults and we should be able to make our own decisions. We should be able to live our lives the way we want to, and live a normal life as heterosexuals can. Why do we need proof that homosexuality isn't a "choice"? If it were proven that homosexuality isn't a "choice" and people are born that way, then would we have the same rights as heterosexuals? I don't believe we would, there would only be another excuse as to why we couldn't marry or become a member of some churches.

Same-sex marriage: Although some states acknowledge same-sex marriage, there are far to many that don't. Who makes these decisions? Does the Governor make these decisions and if so why do some allow it and some don't? How can it hurt others if we could have same-sex marriage in any state? As long as we are not getting involved in your life or hurting you in any way, it shouldn't matter whom we choose to marry. There are many problems that exist in heterosexual marriages and some shouldn't marry. Although we don't get into their business just as some people shouldn't get in our business. There are far to many worse things that go on in the country than what some would call the sin of being a homosexual.

Homosexuals not welcome in some churches: Many church members would call homosexuality a sin because of what the Bible says. The Bible has many flaws, so we can't really go by what the Bible says. If being a homosexual was a "choice" then I could understand why this could be a sin. One does not make the "choice" to be a homosexual, just like a heterosexual does not make the "choice" to be a heterosexual; it is something they are born with. Looking at it that way, why is there a difference? God did not write the Bible so who is to say what he would allow in church and what he wouldn't. Maybe some just need to stop playing God. If God were alive today, would he really think homosexuality was a sin? Or would he know it isn't a "choice" so let live as they wish to live and be accepted. There are some churches that don't close their doors on homosexuals, could they be reading a different Bible than others?

Homosexuals can't adopt children in some states: Some states do not allow gays/lesbians to adopt children, but yet they can become foster parents. Agencies allow gay and lesbians to foster children that no one wants. These children have HIV/AIDS or often times there is something wrong with them. It is almost like saying the only children we can foster parent or adopt are of those whom no one else wants and therefore will never be adopted unless gay/lesbians adopt them. That should be more evidence that no matter what is wrong with a child, we desperately want to become parents. We look past the children's disabilities and parent these children like everyone else. We also give these children an abundance of love and care. You hear more horror stories about heterosexuals abusing, molesting, or even murdering their child more than you hear of a homosexual doing these acts. So the statistics would show there is nothing wrong with homosexuals adopting children, loving and caring for them as though they were our own.

What is right for one should be right for another no matter who you are: If heterosexuals can marry then so should homosexuals. If heterosexuals can go to any church, then so should homosexuals. If heterosexuals can adopt any child, then so should homosexuals. Gay and lesbian couples should have the rights as everyone else and stop being treated as second-class citizens. We can only hope that once they prove being a homosexual is not a "choice" then maybe we will have equal rights. Others then will start looking at us as people too and not just as gay or lesbian.
