GE 13.7 Cu. Ft. Frost-Free Upright Freezer Product Review

Kassidy Emmerson
I mentioned in my article, "How to Turn Healthy Frozen Entrees Into Healthy Man-Size Meals" that my freezer went on the fritz. As you can tell, I ended up replacing it. It's funny how we get so used to the things we have. Then, when we replace one with a new item, and we're surprised at the improvements. Going from a ten-year-old, basic, manual-defrost Kenmore to a GE 13.7 Cu. Ft. Frost-Free Upright Freezer is like trading the old Ford in on a new Buick. Read this informative GE 13.7 Cu. Ft. Frost-Free Upright Freezer, model FUF14SVRWW, product review and find out all about it!

Price and Availability
I comparison-shopped at Sears, Lowe's and Home Depot. I saw the same GE 13.7 Cu. Ft. Frost-Free Upright Freezer, model FUF14SVRWW, at Sam's Club, too. Surprisingly, Home Depot beat the Sam's Club price. Plus, delivery from Home Depot was free, while Sam's wanted an additional $29. My GE 13.7 Cu. Ft. Frost-Free Upright Freezer cost $449., minus a $20. coupon I had, plus tax.

Product Description
The GE 13.7 Cu. Ft. Frost-Free Upright Freezer, model FUF14SVRWW, comes in white. It measures 28 inches wide, is about 60 inches high, is 30 inches deep, and it weighs 164 pounds. When you open the door, the interior light (here I've been living in the dark all these years) reveals 3 adjustable cabinet shelves; a book-end organizer; a slide-out wire bulk storage drawer in the bottom, and 5 roomy freezer door shelves.

The GE 13.7 Cu. Ft. Frost-Free Upright Freezer, model FUF14SVRWW, has a lockable door. The adjustable temperature control is on the front. There's also an electronic temperature control on door. Leave this freezer door ajar for at least 5 minutes, and a light comes on and an audible alarm goes off (one of its best features). The GE 13.7 Cu. Ft. Frost-Free Upright Freezer, model FUF14SVRWW, does not have a power indicator light or a reversible door. But it does have a temperature alarm to warn you if the freezer's temperature gets too warm. The owner's manual warns that placing more than 3 pounds of warm food per cubic foot of freezer capacity can set the alarm off.

The GE 13.7 Cu. Ft. Frost-Free Upright Freezer, model FUF14SVRWW, isn't compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act. Nor is it Energy Star compliant. These appliances use at least 10% less energy, according to www.energystar.org. According to the energy guide that came with the freezer, the "estimated yearly operating cost" is $66. or 621 kWh (kilowatt hour).

The GE 13.7 Cu. Ft. Frost-Free Upright Freezer, model FUF14SVRWW, comes with a limited 1-year warranty on parts and labor. There are extended warranties available. If you don't choose an extended warranty at the time of purchase, you can still buy it later, within 12 months. A "Service Protection Plus" application came with the freezer.

Usage Results and Conclusion
My old freezer was a manual defrost. I have better things to do than defrost the freezer. That means the GE 13.7 Cu. Ft. Frost-Free Upright Freezer, model FUF14SVRWW, is going to save me time. It can help save me money too because I don't have to worry about freezer burn anymore.

I'm pleased with this freezer. It's roomy, stylish (see resources) and affordable. There's only one thing I have to warn you about: the GE 13.7 Cu. Ft. Frost-Free Upright Freezer, model FUF14SVRWW, is noisy. You hear the fan kick on and run a few minutes. Then, you hear a whooooo, whooooo, whoooo like you're in a horror movie and the freezer is haunted. Other times, the whooooo, whooooo, whooooo sounds more like a howling wind. We can hear the GE 13.7 Cu. Ft. Frost-Free Upright Freezer, model FUF14SVRWW anywhere we are in the downstairs of my house. We don't mind it though, because you ought to hear the noise my frost-free refrigerator makes!

From what I can tell researching this freezer. The GE, Kenmore, and Frigidaire are all the same. Those company's just slap their lable on it.

    Thanks for the review.

Good review. I used to love my chest freezer that we had in the UK. It's a shame we couldn't bring it with us. Unfortunately, British voltage (220v) is incompatible with American voltage.

Great article as always. Thank you, Kassidy.

A freezer is a necessity when you want to take advantage of the savings of buying in bulk.... I'll just have to see if there is a quieter one out there. Thanks

Good review. Our standing freezer is in the garage and I'm sure the fan runs but I've never heard it. Isn't it nice to upgrade to something that takes work away from you!!
