General Electric (GE) is looking to hire 15-25 hourly, skilled workers in the Steam and Generator unit in the Schenectady County location in New York. These numbers might not sound like a big deal, but to see the wider opportunity for jobs it is necessary to look at the big picture.

Since 2004, GE has invested in excess of $200 million in the Schenectady County location in New York State. Investments include four projects at the R&D center, a new $100 million battery plant and the $45 million construction of the Renewable Energy Headquarters. The battery plant added 350 new GE jobs and the Renewable Energy Headquarters has added more than 600 new jobs.

These new GE jobs in Schenectady are necessary to deliver on the $750 million contract the company landed last year for gas and steam turbines ordered by Reliance Power to deliver additional power to an emerging region in India.

General Electric employs a very diverse workforce of 300,000+ employees in more than 100 countries across the globe. Interested job seekers can peruse GE jobs and apply on the career pages of the company website at http://www.ge.com.

In addition to general recruiting, GE has two very specific programs to recruit new talent. One program is college recruiting to identify new college graduates for competitive leadership programs. In the CollegeGrad.com list of top employers of new college graduates in 2010, GE came in at #9 with 1600 new college hires. The other group that GE targets for recruiting is US Military Veterans.

If interested in relocating for one of these GE job opportunities, begin research at the Mayor's office for the City of Schenectady.
