Earth hour started originally in Sydney in 2007. By 2008 it had spread globally. This year organizers anticipate the biggest yet. In turn the results will be presented at the Kyoto Protocol summit in Copenhagen in December 2009 as a call to action.
Participating is easy. All you have to do is turn your lights off for one hour starting at 8:30 pm your local time. Sound intriguing? Too hard. It's easier than you think. With a little imagination you might just come away from earth hour a change person.
Some good ideas for earth hour is use solar or candles for light. You and your friends and family might wish to make your own plans to meet and discuss ways to reduce your footprint outside of the earth hour. Or maybe you will take this time to talk candidly to your children about environmental issues.
Be sure to take the time to explain earth hour to your children, friends and family. The more people who get involved the more the message will be spread that we the people are calling for action. In our governments, our schools, our workplaces and communities. We are all part of this amazing planet and need to take responsibility and do our part to keep it and its inhabitants healthy.
All it takes is one hour to show your support.
There is no excuse that living a sustainable life should be on the back burner so to speak during this day and age. We are capable of so much more. Each and everyone of us needs to do our part. It's easy to start with Earth Hour!
Get your kids involved. Your community. Tell everyone you know on line and in real life! Let's make this event huge! This is a great way to start getting involved with grassroots activism if you have been wanting to get involved and do something significant. Small changes make way for bigger changes and we can all do our part to make sure we live on a healthy planet.
Be sure to stock up on eco friendly candles and some snacks.
