Gears of War Survival Guide

Gears of War for the Xbox 360 is an amazing game that has introduced an element of strategy to the first person shooter genre. You have to learn how to duck and cover, conserve ammunition, and cooperate with your teammates in order to survive. Without these essential skills you will have little chance of survival in the Gears of War universe.

The first lesion you have to learn is to duck and cover! Hiding and waiting for an opportunity to strike an opponent rather then busting out into the open is a new concept for all you Halo fans, but is essential to your survival in Gears of War. During a fight try and find anything that you can use to shield your body form enemy fire.

Rocks are scattered everywhere through the environment of Gears of War, and are the most abundant cover available, however feel free to be creative. Use pianos, columns, broken down cars, other people, whatever you have to in order to get out of the line of fire. Also you have to know when to duck and when to fight. When your health starts getting low then you know it's time to get down. When your heath regenerates, or the enemy fire starts then pop up and wipe out your opposition.

Now your going to be involved in some major fire fights and shootouts. Sometimes these confrontations will last a long time and consume massive amounts of ammunition, so you have to learn how to conserve your ammo. You are supplied throughout the game with plenty of ammo, but it just never seems to be around when you need it so try using the Machine Gun, rather then the Assault Rifle. Your Machine Gun is more accurate and will use less ammo then the large Assault Rifle. Also you want to save your Assault Rifle and it's ammunition for close quarter combat.

Another good tip on how to save ammo is by using the Lance Assault Rifle's chainsaw bayonet. This weapon works great on Grunts early on in the game and even on some of the Locusts bigger guys as well. Another good close range weapon is the Gnasher Shotgun. Obviously a shotgun is a close range weapon, but the Gnasher Shotgun offers a consistent one shot kill to most normal sized enemies.

You are offered many options in the game, and this gives you a diverse environment to play in. For this reason you will have multiple ways of eliminating a target, and teamwork is key. Use your teammates to draw enemy fire to get around behind enemy lines and take them down from the inside out. Co-op mode is great for strategizing against opponents, especially when the Locust are hiding behind a gun turret nest. One player needs to draw fire away from the team while the other makes a beeline for the areas behind the turret. Make sure the player supplying surprising fire has plent of ammo to draw attention away from the person sneaking behind enemy lines. If everything goes according to plan you can wipe out the enemy nest in no time.

One player, if you're playing co-op mode, should always try and have the Hammer of Dawn weapon at all times. You never know when this powerful gun will come in handy, and many times it's the only weapon for getting a specific job done. Locust seeders and Berserkers are only able to be defeated by the Hammer of Dawn, so it is key that you have at least one of these in your inventory at all times.

Taking cover is the biggest part of survival in Gears of War, but learning how to conserve ammo and using teamwork are also vital to the success of your mission in the game, and will help you to survive in the world of Gears of War.

Don't use the chainsaw bayonet on grunts in the later part of the game. If you do they will explode and cause massive damage to your character
