Geauga County Democrats Held a Rummage Sale to Attract Voters.
Geauga County Democrats Recent Rummage Sale was a Great Forum for Meeting Local Candidates
Newbury, OH 44065
United States of America
Rummage sale at the Geauga County Democrats Headquarters in Newbury Ohio was an event that helped raise funds and awareness of this local Democratic Headquarters.
Last week I stopped in to visit the Geauga County Democrats office because they were having a three day community rummage sale with the proceeds going into the general fund for supporting their efforts at the Geauga County Democrats office.
The rummage sale stretched across three days, October 21st, 22nd, and 23rd. The fund raising effort was the brainchild of the fund raising committee, with the help of Bonnie Cavanaugh, a dedicated volunteer with the Geauga County Democrats. The event was a success as they received many generous donations of gently used goods, which were sold at very reasonable prices to those who came out in support of this Geauga County Democrats fund raising event.
The event was staffed by volunteers who were on hand for the entire three days. They served refreshments for a nominal fee. It was a very open and relaxed atmosphere, and they were very helpful in discussing political topics for the upcoming election in November.
One of the hot topics I was very interested in discussing was the double dipping of elected officials, which I have recently written about her on Associated Content - Yahoo!. The general agreement amongst the Democrats which I met there is that it is essentially wrong for politicians to receive both their pension and a regular paycheck shortly after being elected back into the same job they held before retiring.
This practice is legal in Ohio since the rules were changed in 2000 to accommodate public school employees. It turns out that it was so loosely written that it can be interpreted in a way that other public officials could also jump on the "Retire and Rehire" bandwagon as well.
The area democrats are waging a local battle against the double dipping of elected officials, and unfortunately there are also democrats doing the same thing as the republicans. This fact takes some of the wind out of their sails on the "Double Dipping Dave" campaign strategy.
So back to the sale, it went on for three days and there were many locals who showed up that were unaware of the Geauga County Democrats office there on Route 87 in Newbury. I was fortunate to find a couple of small collectibles, and some interesting books that I liked. The money is definitely going into the hands of a very responsible group of people who were very open and helpful to me. The operation is run in a very orderly manner and they are working to raise awareness on both the issues and the candidates for all elected positions in the county, the state of Ohio, and beyond.
According to the Geauga County Democrats, Unfortunately President Barack Obama and his lovely wife Michelle could not attend the rummage sale fund raiser, as they were here in the Cleveland area on the 17th for a political fund raiser for Governor Ted Strickland held at the home of David and Carol Carr in Hunting Valley. They spent a few hours at this meet and greet, but did not have time to visit the Geauga County Democrats Office.
This week again President Obama, along with Vice President Joe Biden, were here in Cleveland on Sunday October 24th, to attend a Democratic rally at the Wolstein Center down at Cleveland State University. This is part of their four "moving forward" events that were planned to continue up to the coming election on November 2nd. The Geauga County Democrats office believes that this intensified stumping by the President could help improve the Democrats popularity between now and the election.
Anyone wishing to join this group or to just learn more about issues and candidates can contact them at their offices. Geauga County Democratic Party Headquarters, 12420 Kinsman Road, Newbury Ohio 44065. phone: 1-440-218-2747. You can also donate funds or free time if you are so inclined.
The Geauga County Democrats office is very active in local political events and they have done a good job of increasing their visibility within Geauga County.
