Before taking the GED tests, it is recommended that you brush up your skills by taking a class. The test is fairly difficult, especially the math section, which includes algebra and geometry, and the writing section, which requires that you compose an essay.

In 2004 the Pittsburgh Public Schools closed their GED classes, which were located at Connelley Technical Institute.
