These reigning kings are the new "hottie". It is no longer uncommon to see a beautiful woman on the arm of an IT guy. His geek-speak makes the girls swoon. Being intelligent and shy is a super combo. The girls wont even worry as much if his clothes are a bit outdated. The woman may or may not be interested in his passion or work, but that seems to matter little. What does matter is how big his harddrive is. And wasn't it recently that a television show began to capitalize on this new attraction?
Techies aren't the only sub-class of dork to be able to advance. The shy musician is taking a huge leap forward. Yes, he always was able to score, but now his status of being dreamy is heightened. His soft-spoken intensity and love for music is an aphrodisiac. He can walk down the street with his mp3 player (thanks to the tech dork) and bop his head and lip sync those words to his deep and meaningful song. What woman wouldn't love that? The poet in the smoky café is attracting his fair share as well. He's not just attracting those bohemian chicks anymore. His prose and syntax can break any woman's heart. Plus, he won't make her watch football.
I would argue that this shift from jock to dork could be attributed to evolution. Attraction is not based on a definitive aspect. Women used to be attracted to the big, strong, grunting man because he could protect her. Now, with very few people left that to be hunters and gatherers, and with physical protection not as much of an issue, it has left intellectual power to be the new desirable trait. If a man is smart he can be the one in power. He has the ability to now support the woman. We are biologically driven to survive and smarts are where it's at.
But don't worry guys, women haven't started bringing IQ tests on their first dates...yet.

Post a CommentGreat article. I've always loved smart guys. My sister married an IT guy and is very happy.
Nice article! :)
Oh my gosh, that first line is so funny! This was a great article!
love it! I can kind of relate. In middle school all the nerds were picked on, but suddenly in high school it became okay to be smart.
Interesting theory about the evolution. Geek is the new cool. lol. :)
Damn. Why couldn't this have happened 20 years ago when I couldn't even get a date from a page a day calendar.
great article Lexi. This is what I"m trying to tell my son. He's a nerd in denial. lol
Great article and agree the title is wonderful!
You got that right!
Intelligence is a very attractive trait in a man...just as long as he leaves the pocket protector at home! :)
LOL Fun title!
