Gemstones and Their Magic

Much like people, no two gemstones are alike. Although they may possess similar qualities, no two are completely identical. Each unique gemstone has its own personality and energy about it. It is this energy and personality that makes a gemstone so special.

For centuries, people from all walks of life have believed in the healing powers and magic of gemstones. History shows that many different gemstones have been used over the years in a variety of ways. People carried stones as charms for protection, good fortune, healing, and spirituality. Gemstones were also used during rituals and fortune telling as well. Many people still use and believe in the power of gemstones today.

There are several different types of gemstones. They come in a wide variety of shapes, sizes, and colors. These beautiful stones are found in places all over the world. Some are found exclusively in one or two areas and others in many. It is believed that each type of gemstone possesses a specific power. For example, a gemstone such as agate promotes healing, while a gemstone such as jade attracts love and money.

Most believers in the energies of crystals and gemstones feel that each individual stone possesses a unique power. It is said that a stone's power does not necessarily work the same with every person. For example, one particular stone may bring great luck to you, but in the possession of another, it could bring the worst of luck. Most believe that when choosing a gemstone or crystal, one must feel some sort of connection or attraction to the stone in order for its energy to function at its highest and most beneficial level. Aside from general attraction, some choose to select their personal gemstones based on astrology, birth stones, color, or by the meaning of the gemstones.

In society today it is common for people to possess a personal stone. Most of us have some sort of jewelry featuring a birth stone or another type of stone that we enjoy. Perhaps there was a stone that you found at some point and felt the need to keep it. Maybe a family member passed down a gemstone in your family. Regardless of the nature in which it was acquired, it is believed that any stone you feel connected with can benefit you with its energy. Most believers in gemstone powers feel that there is a reason why certain stones attract certain people. They think that the specific energy from that particular stone is needed by the person with the attraction to it. In other words, the gemstone is "calling" to the person who needs its power. For example, a person who is having trouble sleeping may be attracted to amethyst due to its calming powers and affiliation with sleep and dreams.
