Gender Matters When Choosing a Pet: Which Best Suits You?

Deciding to buy a pet is a big decision. There is much more to getting a pet than just deciding which type of pet that you want. You also have to consider your personality and your lifestyle. Which pet matches you best?

I have always thought that having a pet monkey would be a neat idea. However, a monkey would not match my lifestyle. The same goes with pets such as ponies. Just because you want a pony does not mean that you have the facilities or time for one.

Once you have decided which pet matches your lifestyle best, you must consider things such as breed and color. Another very important issue that you should consider is the gender of your pet. Some types of animals make better pets if they are female and some make better pets if they are male. Of course, it again depends on the purpose of why you are getting the animal.

Horses
As general rule male horses, stallions and studs, are more wild spirited and harder to handle. Therefore they are not for inexperienced riders. Female horses can be temperamental. If you need a trail horse or a horse for a child, I suggested a gelding. A gelding is a male horse that has been altered.

Dogs
If you are not purchasing a dog for breeding purposes but for a pet, female dogs are usually better. Of course the female should be spayed. Male dogs tend to roam more and not stay at home. They are also more aggressive. Females tend to build a better bond with people and have a motherly watch over children.

Cats
The same is true with cats as with dogs. Females that have been spayed are often better pets. They stay at home and are more willing to be there when you call them. Male cats roam and can stay gone for days at a time.

Birds
Ignoring breeding purposes, male birds are often better for pets. Which purchasing cockatiels and other talking birds, the male is usually known for more talking and a bigger vocabulary. The females can become more depressed if alone and can still lay eggs even without a male.

Fish
A tank looks great without all types of fish, both male and female. However, as a general rule male fish are prettier and more colorful than female fish. This is very obvious in guppies and beta fish.
