Gender Selection Guide

Gender Swaying: How to Have a Boy or a Girl

Aaron Mitcham
There are a wide variety of methods available when it comes to gender selection. In this article I will expose you to some of the options available to the d-I-y gender swayer. Just an FYI the term selection isn't used by the do it yourselfers anymore most every one prefers the term swaying as no method low or high tech has proven to be absolutely effective. Your goal is not selection so much as increasing the odds one way or the other.

At this point I should post a huge disclaimer, these methods may or may not work! You should be careful with your resources ( time, money, your psyche) because you can do everything absolutely correct to sway for a gender and get the exact opposite. A child deserves your love as a parent, not a life of secret resentment, wishing you had been a (insert gender here). If you are not prepared for the consequences do not attempt to get pregnant until you are in the right frame of mind. Also keep in mind that there is a great deal of argument among doctors concerning whether or not it is possible to even sway the gender at all.

Sperm.

Depending on your upbringing this word may conjure images of babies, tadpoles, or you may feel it vulgar. Either way they are THE designed gender selectors. Us men produce millions of them and their lifespan is only so long. They have one exclusive purpose and that is to find an egg and fertilize it. Sperm have no brain, eyes, or senses. Yet they travel in the dark, fighting gravity, and each other to make it into the womb.

If this is you first attempt at baby making you need to know something about your spouses sperm. If he has ever fathered children consider how long it took to father them, does he do things which might endanger the viability of his swimmers? Some things which might endanger them are high scrotal temp, radiation, chemical exposure (including smoking, alcohol, or other drugs) , physical trauma ( marathon bike rider, missing a testes, child trauma, etc.).

When it comes to their specific job of choosing your baby's gender their is much debate over whether or not the sperm are different. Most of the methods are are based on the ideas that X sperm are bigger, slower, more hardy (they favor a higher pH balance), and the have a longer life span. Of the preceding we know for absolute certainty they weigh different as the high tech version of microsorting uses a centrifuge to sort them based on weight. Most Doctors tend to agree that the X based sperm swim slightly slower. The other factors appear to be debatable. The male sperm are know for being light weight, quick, they favor a more alkaline environment, and they have a shorter shelf life.

Again except for the weight these characteristics are often debated. Here is what the text books say about standard sperm production.

Life span in fertile cervical mucus is about 5 days. The male body has specialized cells that produce sperm on a 74 day cycle with fresh sperm being made and released all the time. Sperm are released in small groups daily and held for about 7 days before they die and are broken down. Excess sperm either die, come out in nocturnal emissions, or can even be expelled with urine. The body maintains a set level and will constantly recycle what is in the scrotum. They come in a first come first serve fashion meaning you get the oldest first then the newest. The mans lubricant is loaded with them so be aware of this.

The Shettles method is a very complicated method that covers all aspects of fertility but the main parts have to do with when you ovulate and abstaining on specific cycle days. This can be a vary tricky one to attempt as you must be able to pinpoint ahead of time when you ovulate. There are various tools and methods for attempting this and you will definitely become friends with a fertility chart.

Diet

There are two diets (obviously) that the man and woman can follow. Notice the diets work for both not one in particular. For the man and the woman the goal is to make micro adjustments to the genital areas chemistry favoring the environment for x or y sperm. Remember this based on the idea that certain sperm prefer a more alkaline environment or acidic one. To sway for a girl, man and wife must consume more calcium and magnesium, stay away from red meat or anything that would increase available testerone. You should supplement with cranberry and foods that are highly acidic and avoid foods high in sodium.

Position and depth.

Position and depth can supposedly favor one more that the other based solely on the strength and viability of a given type. The theory follows that for a girl one should use shallow penetration and and position that would favor that, missionary or spooning would be a good example. As a side note you would probably want to get up and clean up for the hope of getting a girl as this would make it harder for the sperm to get where they are going. For a boy you would favor deep penetration so rear entry or the wife's legs in the air missionary position would be best for this. Also as a side note you would probably want to get the sperm to stay there as long as possible so don't jump up and run to clean up. If you are a woman that achieves orgasm through intercourse you may want to refrain if you want a girl. There is some studies that point to orgasm causing a release of alkaline chemicals in the vagina. the contractions of an orgasm also tend to aid the smaller fragile y sperm further up into the womb assisting (possibly) the swaying of a boy.

Douching and pH

According this philosophy you can adjust your vagina's pH and make it more hospitable for one or the other. Common douches include ingredients like lemon, vinegar, and baking soda. A word of caution here. The vagina is a remarkable organ and adjusts its pH on its own. There are a large number of bacteria who live here and you can wreak havoc on your body if you aren't careful. Many a woman has had to stop baby dancing to treat a self inflicted yeast infection. Know your body and if your prone to yeast infections I would recommend against using this method as you don't want a self inflicted one.

Finally there are some loose ends to consider. Firstly consider you and your spouses family history. If you husband is #5 of 8 boys then I hope you like blue, conversely if he was the only boy surrounded by women you may be dealing with some pink in your life. If this is your second or third child for whatever reason nature seems to throw you an alternate, note families of all boys or all girls are comparatively rare but they do happen.

Consider the times, economically speaking of course. There is a growing body of research which seems to indicate that more girls are born during times of fiscal or social stress. It would appear female fetuses are more hardy and can survive the mom being stressed about things better.

Some new research has come to light that seems to suggest there is a genetic disposition that afflicts men to produce more x or y sperm. It is not a dominant gene and will only express itself one way or the other depending on the family. For example if his mother comes from a boy heavy family and his father comes from a boy heavy family. He may have that gene and thenceforth produce more y sperm than x. This can be hard to track down if you don't family history on bot sides and also note the wife's family history will not affect your baby making except that if her family leans heavy a certain way, she will pass that on to your children.

There is some research indicating that the longer it takes to conceive the higher the chances of having a boy. There also seems to be a minor statistical bump when you factor in the parents age at time of conception. Younger parents seem to have slightly more boys while older couples have slightly more girls.

All in all home based techniques may work and for most of them they certainly won't hurt. But if you are having trouble conceiving then definitely do not try to sway. You need to focus on conceiving and just be grateful for what you get. After there is still a 50/50 chance of getting what you want! In my years of studying I have found the following websites vary helpful when it comes to gender selection. Webmd will both tell you it's not possible and then how to do it. In-gender.com also seems to have a huge wealth of information including douche recipes, both diets, and even some statistics on the results for given techniques. So all in all be careful have fun and love whatever you get.
