One of the benefits of the internet is now so much information is now available at our fingertips. The U.S. Census dating back to 1790 is available online at no charge to its users, a wonderful resource. There are some excellent genealogy websites out there, some charge a fee and others are completely free.

Learning about your family can be a fascinating journey. You never know what you'll discover while you research your family tree. But one thing is for sure - you'll have lots of fun exploring your roots!

This website is run by volunteers who love genealogy and they cover every county and every state in the United States. You begin by clicking on the state that you are interested in.

This website offers you the ability to search family trees, historical records, passenger records and more. They offer a quick start to help you build your family tree. The website offers a free trial, and there is a fee after that, there are three different types of memberships.

Family Search http://www.familysearch.org/

They list themselves as the largest collection of free family history, family tree and Genealogy records in the world. You can do a search for your deceased ancestor. You can narrow your search by looking for birth/christening, marriage, death/burial. You can also search for a wide range of years, from a two year range to up to a twenty year range. You can search in any country in the world. Registration is free at this website, and you can also print your family tree in ancestor and descendant charts for free.

You can search historical records at this website, with full names and birth and death year with the country the person is from. You can also look up family trees for branches of family. You can also look up photos and maps. There are stories and publications to view. You can search the U.S. Census records at this website from 1790 through 1930. Free trial offered at this website and then after that there is a fee.

At this website you can search by first name and last name. You can also search by keyword. RootsWeb.com offers great tips to get started http://searches.rootsweb.com/share.html. They include joining mailing lists at the website and making a webpage at the website. This website is free for users.

Genealogy.org http://www.genealogy.org/

At this website you can search the U.S. Census. You can also search genealogy databases for each state. They offer some great tips to get you started.

    Thanks for sharing all of your knowledge about genealogy. I've been researching and "climbing my family tree" for several years now. The internet is a wonderful tool. It saves my eyes and my legs!
