General Beauregard Lee's Groundhog Day Prediction for the Southeast

Wendy Dawn
With all due respect to Punxsutawney Phil and his experience at Gobbler's Knob, southerners have their own weather prognosticator, General Beauregard Lee. General Beauregard Lee lives year-round at the Yellow River Game Ranch in Stone Mountain, Georgia.

General Beauregard Lee emerged on February 2, 2008, and did not see his shadow. The interpretation, spring weather is around the corner. As if to affirm General Lee's prediction, local forecasters' affirm that temperatures in the southeast will rise a bit next week.

As it usually goes, General Lee didn't see his shadow promising spring is around the corner, while Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow this Ground Hog Day, predicting six more weeks of winter weather.

As for me, I'm sticking with General Beauregard Lee. I'm ready for winter temperatures to drop.

The original southern ground hog climatologist, General Beau Lee, retired ten years ago, but his legacy and Ground Hog Day prognostication has been carried on by the family. General Beauregard Lee has carried on the family business since General Beau Lee's retirement ten years ago.

Beauregard lives a life of luxury and only works on February 2nd, when he carries the burden of predicting the weather of the coming weeks for the entire week. People all over the southeast keep track of General Beauregard Lee's every move on February 2nd, Ground Hog Day, because he has an astounding rate of accuracy. Even The National Weather Service has commended General Beau Lee for his predictions.

It might surprise you to know that the star of Ground Hog day in the south lives in a Southern mansion, complete with white columns, a fountain, and a granite monument, monogrammed lawn marker, and a sundial. In case your meteorological questions are not answered by General Beau Lee's appearance on Feb 2, he has his own mailbox. Feel free to forward your questions.

In his spare time General Beau Lee has a satellite dish which allows him to keep himself informed, and apprised of the antics of Punxsutawney Phil on Ground Hog Day in Philadelphia.

Great story! So cute. Sorry, if General Lee wants to retire to the Southwest no jobs available here, in Tucson, Arizona we always know it's going to be, sunny, warm and dry! P.S. Except in the summer, when it's Hot, Hot, Hot!
