I thought the combination of banana flavor with the traditional taste of Cheerios was a great idea! I usually like banana flavored flakes and love it even more when nuts are in the mix. But, judging by the box cover there were no nuts in this cereal, and the cereal was in the traditional 'wheel' shaped Cheerios rather than flakes. That made the banana flavor idea all the more interesting.
I generally prefer to eat cold cereal only when I'm in the mood for it, unless it is a high-fiber cereal or it's muesli. Therefore, it was several days after bringing it home that I actually tried the New General Mills Banana Nut Cheerios cereal.
I caught the slightest whiff of the scent of bananas as I pulled open the inner wax paper bag in the box of Banana Nut Cheerios. There was a slight sheen on the cereal pieces and they looked a little more yellow or lighter in color than the traditional General Mills Cheerios.
I popped one of the little 'tires' into my mouth and found that it was indeed slightly sticky. While the taste was 'okay,' it didn't have much of a banana taste. After pouring the Banana Nut Cheerios into a bowl and adding 2% milk to it, I found that the cereal's flavor became even blander!
On a good note, the cereal held up well in the milk and didn't get soggy quickly.
I decided I enjoyed the Banana Nut Cheerios more as a dry snack than as a breakfast cereal. It would probably work well in some sort of party mix or trail mix, but I most likely would not be buying the Banana Nut Cheerios again, unless I had a specific need for it. I prefer the original General Mills Cheerios over the Banana Nut flavored Cheerios.

General Mills Cereal Box Prices Lower, but Less Cereal in BoxConfusing pricing strategy of lower prices, but less cereal in box is General Mills way of introducing a price increase- Life is a Bowl of CheeriosWhy do Cheerios and other cereals need the extra expense of boxed packaging? Potato chips and pretzels don't come in boxes. I love my Cheerios, but they could cost less.

Post a Commentgood point, flavor is everything in foods to me
Honey nut Cheerios are my favorite. I'm usually not big on banana-flavored things, so I probably won't try this new flavor. Nice review :)
I've not tried this brand before. Whenever I do eat Cheerios, I reach for the plain variety.

Thanks for this review. I'm passed the box numerous times but was not brave enough to go for it! I didn't want to be disappointed especially when I LOVE banana nut muffins and would like the same taste to be conveyed. I will probably not buy it now unless I have a coupon...
Thanks! I like Honey Nut best...
I love Cheerios, I should try this one, thanks.
I was afraid it wouldn't have much of a banana flavor. Great review!
Great review. Although I like Cheerios and generic Cheerios, I don't think I would like banana flavored ones. I don't usually care for anything that is banana flavored.
Good job...
The grand kids love 'em! :-}
