Generate Page Views - Become a Power Producer

What You Didn't Know About Forums, Social Bookmarking and Search Engines

Nick Steadman
In no way am I a "Power Producer" here on AC, I like that term... Power Producer! But I do like to see my articles gain page views, the only complaint I have there is that they don't update live... but still, seeing one article boost to 300 page views in just a day or so (without ever being on the front page) is great! As an Associated Content "Content Producer" I'm sure you check the forums here regularly... If not you are really missing out!

The forums on this site make it extremely easy to promote your content, even if you don't realize you are doing it! Take this example, if a fellow CP asks a question in the forums, even if it is completely unrelated to AC, take a few seconds out of your busy schedule to post a reply. If you answer the question perhaps the CP who asked it will be enticed into checking your profile... seeing who you are and what you publish. More often than not when you post in the AC forums one or more of your articles will have a new comment from someone you've never spoken to before. Forum readers generate page views for your submissions!

You think that is limited to the AC forums? Not at all! If you already visit other Internet forums why not plug your content there? Add a link in your signature that leads to your CP profile page, or even to your most recent article. Maybe the forum you frequent doesn't allow signatures, don't worry, all is not lost. Start a new thread in said forum - ask the readers if they want to make easy money online! Keep reading, the best kept secrets are yet to come!

Depending on the rules of the other forum you you frequent... You can do different things. For instance: 1) Write a paragraph about how AC has helped you, throw in a link to a few article or your profile page. Ask the readers to Read, Rate and Recommend (Digg). 2) This is where you get sneaky... Do all the same as above, but DON'T link to your profile or articles. Never spell out Associated Content, just leave it at AC. Finally, at the end of your post show them where to sign up by adding your referral link (properly tinyurl'd to something like http://tinyurl.com/ywd5dg). By not saying Associated Content explicitly people wont visit the site on their own and sign up using the basic join link, and by using TinyURL they wont realize it a referral link.

I've managed to sign up over 25 CP's this way... can you say referral bonus? After someone does use my referral link I always send them an email saying thank you and directing them to my profile page and a few articles. If they happen to reply with their profile page (of if they message me on AC) I add them to my favorite CP's and ask them to do the same. This creates a small network that helps generate lots of page views for all that are involved the personal network. Ok, now on to the next big secret that most people ignore.

"BOOKMARK THIS PAGE" is a section at the bottom of every article that the casual user completely ignores or is too lazy to use. It only takes a few minutes and is a great way to spread the work about your articles. Digg, Delicious, newsvine, furl and seven others are in the main list. Have you ever clicked on "Read more" after the blinklist link? There are 49 social bookmarking sites listed when you click read more, dont believe me? Scroll down, find the Bookmark This Page box and click Read more. Try out one of the 49 options given, most will make you sign up... if you cant be bothered to sign up, find one of the few that don't requite a sign up and bookmark this article to see how it works. OK... finally, you figured out a great way to spread the word on those social bookmarking sites, but you want to see some real results? One final tip in the next paragraph, and this one is amazing - more people should use it!

Use the different search engines to your advantage. Do me a favor, open a new tab and search for your name in Google or Yahoo! and see what comes up... Your personal site, one of your articles? Are either of those in the top 10? That all depends on how popular your name is and if your articles are even listed in the search engine. On Yahoo and Google I usually have 3 of the top 10 links, depending on the day and how popular other searches are. Thats not too bad, but what are your standings? Do the searches even kn now where to look for your content? Eventually they will, but why not give them a little help... submit your content to their web-crawler to speed up the process... read on to find out how, and see how its helped me!

Here are the two basic links: http://www.google.com/addurl/, http://search.yahoo.com/info/submit.html be sure to include keywords. Typically I type in a few key words from the article, my name (and typical misspellings), Associated Content, AC, and anything else specific to myself or the article - all separated by commas. This adds quite a bit to how the search engines find your submitted articles and other content. Example: my article "The Patriot Act - Government Terrorists Deny Civil Rights" was published 4 days ago, I added it to the search engines, a quick search in Google for 'Government Terrorists' puts my article 3rd down on the results page, Yahoo! puts it 7th. Searching 'deny civil rights' Google lists my article first! Searching for the Patriot Act returns too many results much more popular to find my article, especially after only a few days... but as you can see submitting articles by hand can yield big results!

Thats all the tips for today, I hope they help you out and lead you on your way to becoming a Power Producer here on AC!

Useful information in an interesting package Nick, thanks for sharing your, obviously successful, techniques. When the top promoter with almost 10 million hits (K. Ray) is reading your tips on marketing you know you have it going on.
Thanks for the article, could you do one about the 'tiny url'?

Hahaha, I also just noticed the picture accompanying your article -- "like a gift from the internet!" Amay-zing. I, too, wish my computer had a protruding arm that handed me colorful boxes of happy.

Now this is what I like to read. I have to sift through page after page of articles of "helpful tips" that basically regurgitate the same things -- but the tip for submitting your URL to google and yahoo is really great, I'm surprised this is the first I've heard of it. Thanks for such useful info.

I tried it, and just got accused of spamming. Honestly, I don't see how you do it. People out there are bloodthirsty. They don't want you to promote your articles or get referrals on their site. They take all the anger they feel about the real spammers out on people who are trying to legitimately promote their site on a legitimate forum. There must be a better way.

Thanks for the tips! I Googled my name (without the quotations even) and my Content Producer page was the top link. That put a smile on my face! :)

I love your way of adding your referral link, sneaky hehe
