Generations Create a Bag Scrapbooking Organizer Tote: Product Review

Amy Solovay
Organization is one of the major challenges associated with scrapbooking. The Generations Create-A-Bag rolling organizer is meant to help you tackle this challenge. Whether you want to take it to crops and retreats, or you are just looking for a way to keep your crafts area more organized, this tote can help.

This rolling organizer has a telescoping handle, which is handy because you can collapse it when it is not being used. There are spots for holding pens, markers, pencils, scissors, papers, stickers, albums, punches, and just about any other supplies you might want to take with you if you go to a crop.

The "Create-A-Bag" concept is interesting. The tote has many strips of Velcro where you are able to attach various interchangeable storage compartments. The system was designed this way to allow you to be able to choose which sizes and shapes of storage you prefer. There are many advantages to this system; it allows you to customize the bag to fit your own supplies exactly, and to set up your organizer exactly the way you want it. The disadvantage to this system is that the accessories are all sold separately.

This is a great tote, but there are several things about it that I really did not like. The first thing I disliked is that I had a hard time finding some of the accessories that I wanted for it. I was eventually able to find them for sale online with some diligent searching. The total cost of the tote turned out to be more expensive than I had expected, once I added in the cost of the accessories plus the shipping costs.

The second thing I disliked was that the tote had a tendency to tip over when it was loaded full of supplies.

The third thing I disliked was that the tote did not fit everything I wanted to put in it. This tote does hold quite a few supplies, but it is smaller than some of the other totes that are currently available. I could have lived with the first two problems listed above, but this problem was really the clincher for me. I sold this tote (at a loss, unfortunately) and bought a Crop In Style XXL rolling organizer instead. Which is not to say that this tote is a bad product; it isn't at all. In fact, I really liked it. It just didn't meet my particular needs.

If you want to travel light, this tote has an advantage over the larger, bulkier XXL rolling tote. This tote is recommended if you are just looking to throw a few things in it and take off to crops or retreats. However, if you are the kind of scrapper who needs to have everything with you when you crop, this tote will probably be too small for you.

Overall, I would recommend this tote to others as long as they are aware of its limitations before purchasing it. Generally speaking, the tote is high quality and functional. I thought that it was a decent value for the money. I prefer my XXL, but if the XXL weren't available I would have probably been satisfied with the Create-A-Bag.
