Game Background
Basically, the author of the game created multiple turret defense games and put them inside this game. Each of the eight games has its own storyline, but each game is essentially the same game. Defend (blank) by shooting (blank) with your turret. Pretty generic, but that's the point.
Gameplay
Once you pick one of the eight games, or create your own generic turret game, you can begin playing. You are in control of a turret and can fire at will with the only limitation being the weapon you are using.
When you customize the game, you can select the type of turret you want, your enemy, your starting weapon (which will determine your special weapon), the object you're defending, and the map type. Playing a custom game will not allow you to submit your score.
Killing enemies will earn you points that can be used to purchase a number of items at the store, which you are sent to after every level you complete.
At the store, you can purchase turrets, like:
Basic Canon
-single shot
-4 damage per shot
-Holds 1 round
-0.3-second reload
Twin Cannon
-single shot
-8 damage per shot
-holds 1 round
-0.3-second reload
Machine Gun
-auto-fire
-21.4 damage per second
-holds 20 rounds
-1-second reload
Dual Machine Gun
-auto-fire
-75 damage per second
-holds 40 rounds
-1.5-second reload
Chain Gun
-auto-fire
-100 damage per second
-holds 200 rounds
-0.7-second reload
Artillery Gun
-single shot
-30 damage per shot
-holds 1 round
-1-second reload
Laser Canon
-auto-fire
-400 damage per second
-holds 20 rounds
-0.8-second reload
You can also purchase drone turrets, which are computer-controlled light turrets armed with your choice of Basic Canon, Machine Gun, or Chain Gun.
You can purchase repairs for your turrets and/or drones and/or defensive target. The options are 20% and 50% repairs.
Review
Generic Defense Game is a great twist on the whole defense game genre that seems to permeate every game site known to man. Each of the eight storylines in this game is a jab at how all turret defense games are structured. By poking fun at the common themes of all turret defense games, the author has been able to turn a generic and commonplace game into a pretty entertaining satire.
Generic Defense Game scores a 10/10. The gameplay isn't too bad, the artwork isn't too bad. The custom game option is nice, and the 8 different storylines are nice. What really makes the game, though, is the author's take on turret defense games, and it's this game concept that really grabs a player's attention and keeps a player playing a game that s/he has probably already played a million times.
