Generic Drugs Versus Brand Name Drugs is There a Difference?

Just looking at Brand name drugs and Generic drugs in my medicine cabinet I find that almost all of my prescriptions are generic. Honestly I can not tell the difference between the two and I am sure Insurance companies and my wallet prefer the Generic brands over the Brand names. I know that if I compare prices over the two there is usually a huge difference in the price between the two.

The Skinny

In my opinion Brand name drugs tend to be overpriced by a great deal. I can understand why since they pretty much have the market cornered on a particular drug until there is a Generic drug to offer an alternative. Though with today's medical plans, Most of them are more than happy to pay for a generic drug over a Brand name Drug.

What I can not find in a Generic

So far the only Brand name drugs I take is for a certain kind of insulin that there is no generic for at this time. Once there is a generic for it I will not have a problem switching to the generic version. So far the generics that I use work exactly like any brand names I have tried usually right down to the side effects.

My Honest opinion

In my opinion the generic drugs show that a drug can be made for less and not hit people's pockets as hard as they do. I know for awhile I was uninsured and I would not have been able to afford my medicine if it had not been for generic drugs and the various programs run by pharmacies for the generics at three dollars and ninety nine cents.

The Conclusion

So in conclusion yes I trust Generic Drugs over Brand name drugs. For one they are more reasonably prices which do not make me feel like I am lining someone's pocket somewhere with the extra they charge for making these drugs. Second, all the generic Drugs I have ever tried as opposed to Brand name drugs have always worked the same or so similar that I have not really noticed a difference. As far as I am concerned I will continue to press my doctor for generics over brand named drugs every time
