On Monday, the Oakland Raiders announced George Blanda's death and offering no further details. George Blanda played for the Oakland Raiders from 1967 to right before the 1976 season when he retired at age 48.
In 1981, he was elected to Pro Football Hall of Fame because he played for twenty-six seasons and was one of two men who played pro football for four separate decades. George Blanda played in National Football League and the American Football League. After a merge in 1970 by the two leagues the hybrid was unified under N.F.L rubic.
In 1949, George Blanda started his football career with the Chicago Bears playing for George Halas. George Halas shaped the way we know football today.
George Blanda kicked a 55-yard field goal in 1961 and a few years later kicked a 52-yard field goal. George Blanda was one of the best all time professional football players to have ever played football. George Blanda is a legendary quarterback and kicker for four different NFL teams.
George Blanda threw 236 touchdowns and running for nine. He also kicked 335 field goals and 943 extra points. George Blanda spent ten seasons with the Chicago Bears, part of one year with the Baltimore Colts and seven with Houston Oilers. His last nine years of playing professional football with the Oakland Raiders.
NFL films have called George Blanda a "football's King Tut exhibit." George Blanda was born September 17, 1927 in Youngwood Pa and was one of eleven children of a coalminer. George Blanda has died at age 83 and survived by his wife Betty. George Blanda will be missed by everyone who loves professional football.
