George and Callie Wedding on Grey's Anatomy?
Grey's Anatomy Wedding Annoucement Involving George and Callie
That was subject line of TV Guide's Daily Scoop email sent today, containing news about the latest goings-on at the fictional Seattle Grace Hospital that is the home base of Grey's Anatomy and two beloved characters named George and Callie.
In the most recent installment posted today of TV Guide writer Michael Ausiello's column called Ask Ausiello, the popular scribe of all-things-television buzzed about a Grey's Anatomy would-be wedding shocker: Characters George and Callie are getting engaged.
T.R. Knight, who plays the cuddly and affable George O'Malley, is no stranger to big news lately, due to T.R. Knight's much-publicized on-set Grey's Anatomy real-life scuffle with Isaiah Washington, who plays the tense and brilliant cardio-thoracic surgeon Preston Burke.
Reportedly, T.R. Knight came to the aide of another cast member that Isaiah Washington was giving a hard time, prompting Washington to make disparaging remarks about Knight's sexuality. Shortly thereafter, the man that viewers everywhere know and love as George came out of the closet and confirmed what many Grey's fans had already suspected about both George and Knight -- that in real life, Knight was gay.
In Grey's Anatomy land though, George is still straight (thus far) and not married. But the off-air persona of the man who plays George will be an interesting dynamic to factor into the wedding mix with Callie, if in fact TV Guide is correct in their assertion that a George and Callie wedding is in the works.
Dr. Callie Torres, played by the gorgeous and talented 5' 9'' Latina named Sara Ramirez, represents a breath of fresh air to many Grey's Anatomy lovers for several reasons, one of which is Sara's is uber-talent. Before being cast as Callie, Sara won a Tony for her portrayal as Lady of the Lake in Spamalot.
So now the buzz is that the dynamic George and Callie duo may represent the fulfillment of the Grey's Anatomy wedding rumors that first surfaced when Oprah questioned Grey's creator Shonda Rhimes about a wedding, but Rhimes refused to confirm or deny any Grey's wedding.
"I heard that someone on [Grey's Anatomy] will get pregnant," Katie Ausiello wrote in the TV Guide post, then asked the question that prompted Michael Ausiello's revelation: "Would you happen to know who?"
"Not sure about that," Michael wrote back, "but I can tell you who's getting engaged: George and Callie!"
Michael went on to detail that Rhimes also would not confirm the George and Callie impending wedding, but he posted that "one well-placed mole tells me that [Grey's Anatomy insiders will] make the announcement during February sweeps."
So, if George and Callie - who broke up seemingly permanently when George discovered that Callie had bedded McSteamy - are planning a wedding on Grey's Anatomy, maybe it will in fact be the kind of shotgun white wedding that Billy Idol sang about.
