George Clooney: Actor & Activist

Julia Bodeeb
George Clooney grew up in Kentucky. He is liberal in his politics. He is also active in many charities to help people who are in crisis. He has a big heart and the fighting nature needed to take action on important world issues.

Clooney is a serious actor and a heartthrob too. He has some very ardent fans. They enjoy his movies no matter what genre they are.

Actor

George Clooney's acting career first gained a lot of public attention in this role on the television show ER. He played a hunky doctor on this show. Quite a few of his fans probably still hope that if they ever have to go to an emergency room that the doctor will be as handsome as Clooney.

In the past decade Clooney has had major success in popular movies. He acted in the films The American, Oceans Eleven and then Oceans Twelve and Oceans Thirteen, Syriana, Good Night and Good Luck, The Perfect Storm and other movies.

He continues to do many different kinds of movies. His followers will never get bored. Eventually Clooney may start to spend more time as a producer and director. Let's hope though that he always does some acting too.

A New Marriage Soon?

Clooney had a marriage to Talia Balsam that ended in 1993, notes IMDB. He has now been dating Italian Elisabetta Canalis for some time. Will he marry her? If so many American women will be jealous! It will be interesting indeed to see if his love of Italy keeps Clooney there forever or if this lifestyle is just a stage of his life.

He now lives at Lake Como in Italy. Many Americans are hoping he will come back to his home country. Will he stay abroad or will homesickness eventually occur and draw him back to America?

Activist

George Clooney's foundation, Not on Our Watch, has joined with the United Nations and Google to begin a new program to monitor the border region between south and north Sudan. This country is in danger of a civil war. The border will be watched by satellite. Then action can be taken if either part of the country starts to mobilize troops or equipment for a war.

George Clooney described his goals for the program: "We want to let potential perpetrators of genocide and other war crimes know that we're watching, the world is watching," reports the Huffington Post. He has long worked to help the people in Darfur in the Sudan. He has brought a lot of media attention to the problems there. He uses his fame to help people. That is very admirable.

Clooney has also donated to a wide range of charities including UNICEF, American Foundation for AIDs Research, ONE Campaign, Feeding America, CARE, Cinema for Peace, Realizing the Dream, Save the Children and Rock for Darfur, notes Look to the Stars. He reaches out when people are in crisis. He uses his huge salary from films to make many donations to charities and do many different kinds of good deeds.
