George Clooney, Up in the Air Win Top Prizes from Central Ohio Film Critics

Up, Inglorious Basterds, An Education Also Win Multiple Awards

George Clooney's hit movie Up in the Air won the top prize in the 2009 Central Ohio Film Critics Association on Jan. 7, 2010.

Up in the Air, which stars Clooney as a free-spirited frequent flier, won Best Film in the eighth annual awards. The movie also collected awards for Best Actor (Clooney), Best Director (Jason Reitman) and Best Adapted Screenplay (Reitman and Sheldon Turner)

Clooney also won the Actor of the Year award for his work in Up in the Air, The Men Who Stare at Goats, and the animated Fantastic Mr. Fox.

Inglorious Basterds, Quentin Tarantino's Nazi hunter movie, also captured four awards: Best Ensemble, Best Supporting Actor (Christopher Waltz), Best Original Screenplay (Tarantino), and Best Cinematography (Robert Richardson).

The candy-colored Up won two awards: Best Animated Film, and Best Score (Michael Giacchino). The coming-of-age film An Education won Best Actress and Breakthrough Film Artist for its star, Carey Mulligan.

Other COFCA winners include:

Waltz with Bashir (Best Foreign Film)

The Central Ohio Film Critics Association consists of more than 20 critics from print, radio, television, and other media. COFCA announced the awards at a private party on Jan. 7

Past winners of COFCA's Best Film Award, from 2002-08, were Punch-Drunk Love, Lost in Translation, Million Dollar Baby, A History of Violence, Children of Men, No Country for Old Men, and WALL-E.
