George Wilkins, Youtube, Lulu, TruckerToTrucker and Writing for Fun

Daily Laughs, Serious Moments and Trying to Pen Something Worthy of Note - or Not

Clark Richards
I just received my monthly check from Associated Content. I earned a whopping $3.62, but the enjoyment of stringing together a few words in either a humorous or more serious manner is worth the expense of earning a little over $3. I figure it probably cost about $300 for that return just this month - high speed Internet connection, printer ink and paper, upgraded computer, a new digital camera to post images and video without copyright infringements and a few other miscellaneous expenses attributed to my writing affliction and I am paying to write. But I'm having great fun and I think that is what life is supposed to deliver if one works at it! I was just reading an article about economics and I'm earning more that a 10% return on my investment. It works like that for writers doesn't it?

Many thanks to those viewers that have, at least at one time or another, found something amusing or interesting about what I have penned. Anyway, I am sitting here chuckling about the creation of George Wilkins as the spokesman for TruckerToTrucker.com. I had written a few articles for the Trucker site over the past year - even did a "route planner" for truckers traveling along I-70 or I-10. (if you are planning a trip- take a look, the link is in the Resources section on this page). Jim the owner of TruckerToTrucker.com and I have become web friends over the past year. He is an honest, hardworking guy that is dedicated and committed to making his site useful, attractive and cost effective for those that wish to buy or sell a heavy truck. He even has a store that sells equipment for big rigs. In one of our conversations, he mentioned that YouTube commercials are becoming popular. Well, with time on my hands, a few weird ideas and the desire to learn something new, I produced a rookie video promoting his site.

Within a few moments George Wilkins was birthed. This literary spokesperson, was just an out of thin air (or perhaps some other location) selection of a name. I had some great Internet pictures that could have identified George Wilkins, but fearing copyright infringements, I settled on a picture my wife took of Lulu (my assistant writer and sidekick) and I when we were resting after a long day of doing something. After putting the video together and writing a story about George Wilkins, I wondered if there was really anyone on the Internet with that name. I googled his name and lo and behold the story I wrote showed up on page one. Assuming anyone would ever google that name is a bit far fetched, but hey, Paris Hilton and that Spears woman get googled all the time - so why not George Wilkins?

The bottom line of this story is that great fun is available for those that want to send their writing out into the Internet world. Frankly, there is so much being written that one has to wonder who might read all that stuff. As for writing, it's much more enjoyable than watching 24 hour news or some mindless sitcom or drama that occupies many American households. So I will continue to write about George Wilkins and he will work hard to promote TruckerToTrucker.com. Lulu and I will also enjoy the occasional BK whopper that George is so enamored with. Thanks for reading this and George Wilkins and I wish you the very best - oh and Lulu does too.
