Georgetown is in the 2010 Big East Championship Game. Georgetown made it to the 2010 Big East Championship Game by beating Marquette Friday night in the Big East Tournament semifinals. Georgetown has seemingly come out of nowhere to make it into the 2010 Big East Championship Game, starting out as the No. 8 seed in the Big East Conference Tournament, but sweeping through the competition quite easily. As the No. 8 seed, Georgetown got a first round bye, but then they had to win three games in order to qualify for the 2010 Big East Championship Game.

On Friday night, Georgetown beat Marquette by a score of 80 to 57, decidedly showing that they deserve this slot in the Big East Championship Game. Marquette got to the semifinals by beating Villanova in the quarterfinals, and that probably netted them a spot in the 2010 NCAA Tournament right there. It was Georgetown's win over Marquette that all but guaranteed that Georgetown will now be in the 2010 NCAA Tournament as well. But now after having beaten Marquette, Georgetown would first like to start by winning the 2010 Big East Championship. The Big East Championship Game takes place on Saturday, March 13th, with a tip off time of 9:00 p.m. EST on ESPN.

It was no easy task for Georgetown to make it to the 2010 Big East Championship Game, as they came into the tournament with a 20-9 overall record. Their first game was against South Florida (20-12 overall), and they put them down by 20 points, setting up a quarterfinal match against No. 1 seeded Syracuse. It was a hard-fought game, but Georgetown beat them 91 to 84 to clinch a spot in the Big East semifinals. After a very competitive first half from Marquette, Georgetown put them away, winning the game by 23 points in the end. Now Georgetown will play either West Virginia or Notre Dame on Saturday to decide the Big East Conference Championship, as well as which Big East team gets an automatic bid into the 2010 NCAA Championship.
