Georgia Bulldogs Dominate No. 8 Tennessee Volunteers

The Georgia basketball team proved once again that it is a force to be reckoned with. While expectations for them this season are low and they sport a mere 9-8 record, 1-3 in the SEC, they can play with anybody in the country. Yesterday, the Bulldogs stuck it to the Volunteers of Tennessee in a 78-63 victory. It was a full house at Stegman Coliseum for the first time in nearly 3 years as the fans realize that their team has a good chance to be a Cinderella team or at least a spoiler for other teams this season.

This isn't Georgia's first good performance against one of the nation's top teams. They beat Tech 3 weeks ago and came very close to knocking of undefeated Kentucky 2 weeks ago. The final margin in the Kentucky game was 8 points but they were tied with just over 3 minutes to play.

Granted Tennessee has been a bit disrupted lately with all the suspensions but they still were hugely favored over Georgia. But Georgia outplayed them all around. The Bulldog's biggest lead was 40-20 near the end of the first half and the deficit was too much for the Volunteers to overcome. Hopson led Tennessee with 19 points and 5 steals but it was no match for the combination of Trey Thompkins and Travis Leslie, who combined for 40 points on 17-24 shooting.

Georgia is back in action Wednesday night at Florida. At the same time Tennessee hosts Vanderbilt.
