She's arguing that Barack Obama isn't qualified. He is simply gaining support because he is a black man. This couldn't be farther from the truth. IF he were a white man, he could easily be in the same position. Obama's political experience mirrors John Edwards experience when he ran for president 4 years ago. As a democrat, she ought to be ashamed of herself! Democrats fight for equality and justice, yet she is involving race in the presidential campaign. Americans like Barack Obama because they like change. Not because they are keen on the idea of having a black president. Ferraro's comments should offend Obama Supporters.
What makes things worse is that Clinton isn't exactly that much more qualified then Barack Obama, in terms of senatorial experience. Both individuals were elected in the 2000's. Of course Hilary has more political experience, but it is unfair to dismiss Barack because of his lack of experience. Lack of experience in Washington could be good. Perhaps things won't be business as usual if Obama is elected.
Ferraro's comments do nothing to help the historically oppressed groups in the United States either! African Americans and women have both faced issues of inequality. Ferraro almost suggests that women have faced more discrimination the blacks. Minorities should never pit themselves against other minorities because it only gives the majority more power.
The democrats really need to get their act together if they want to take back the white house. They should focus more on the two historical potential presidential nominees, and less on who faces more adversity. Comments by Ferraro and others do nothing to gain democratic support.
Blacks and women have both suffered from discrimination for hundreds of years. It is unclear who has suffered more. Democratic African Americans and women should unite behind both of these candidates. They both represent change. The both will bring a different perspective to the white house. This is what liberalism is all about, progression.
