Gerber Soft Bite Toddler Spoons
Gerber Soft Bite Toddler Spoons come 4 spoons to a package. The tips, which are made of a silicone material, come in various different colors. I've seen them in soft blue, soft pink, dark blue, hot pink, green, and purple in various size packages. The 4 pack retails for about $4.99 in most stores.
The Gerber Soft Bite Toddler Spoons are shorter than the infant spoons and made to accommodate a small child's hand. Instead of being 6 inches long, these spoons are around 4 inches long. They are the perfect size for a toddler to hold on to and learn how to feed himself.
The tips of the spoons are covered with a smooth silicone coating. This coating helps to prevent your toddler from banging on a new tooth coming in or bruising his gums from biting down too hard. I also think these spoons are great for preventing accidents that could easily happen with a toddler and a spoon with a handle.
My Thoughts On Gerber Toddler Spoons
My grandson adjusted easily to holding these spoons. He is a do-it-yourself'er and enjoys trying to feed himself. He started wanting to feed himself early at about 6 months. This is when my daughter introduced this spoon to him. Of course, he made a big mess and she didn't let him try again for several months. He eventually got the hang of it, as most toddlers do and made it to the stage where he could manage the spoon and feed himself all by himself. Of course, this opened the door to being independent and only letting anyone else feed him when he is very tired.
I do want to point out one possible hazard. My daughter mentioned that she was using the Gerber Soft Bite Toddler Spoons to her pediatrician when he inquired about my grandson's eating habits and his development. He advised her not to use these spoons because a toddler could bite the silicone off the spoon and swallow it, causing a possible choking hazard. After this precaution my daughter switched back to regular metal spoons. She wanted to go down the safe and not sorry route. I thought I would mention this because not all parents will think of this possible hazard. I would think that if they were that bad, there would be a recall out on them.
The Gerber Soft Bite Toddler Spoons are very durable. They are easy to clean and also dishwasher safe.
The Gerber Soft Bite Toddler Spoons are a good spoon for toddlers just learning to eat by themselves.
