Jewell recently published her biography in which she details her life. She got her start in show business in 1978 doing stand up at The Comedy Store. According to her biography, she also did the Annual Media Access Awards, in 1980 where Norman Lear who propelled her acting career spotted her.
The fifty four year old actress was born in Buffalo New York continues to be in the spotlight as a motivational speaker and trainer for those companies who wish to know more about the different disabilities people have and how to deal with those handicaps.
Her biography is scheduled to be released on April 1, 2011 according to the NyPost web site and is titled "I am Walking As Straight As I Can". The title reflects on, not only her cerebral Palsy but also her sexual orientation as a Lesbian. According to The Huffington Post, the book deals with her money troubles, agents, drugs and recovery as well as her acting career.
Geri Jewell played on "Facts of Life" as Blair Warner's cousin Geri. In this youtube video Geri is introduced to the girls at the boarding club and performs her comedy skit. In this clip, she brings to light many of the trails she faces as a handicap person with Cerebral Palsy. This was the first time that a person with handicap appeared in a role on television according to her Wikipedia page.
Gerri Jewell also played in "21 Jump Street" as Officer Rebecca Scanlon. In this youtube clip, she tries to get a job at the station and succeeds. The case she gets with officer Penhall (Peter Delouise), she feels patronized because of her handicap, but she has never been one to give into her Cerebral Palsy. The important message within this clip is that being handicap does not mean one needs to be treated differently.
From 2003 to 2006, Geri Jewell had a role in "Deadwood" an HBO series. This youtube clip shows the actress walking down the street, to the doctor to show him a book that will help her walk more normally. The doctor dismisses her, and she walks away. The doctor visits her later with the boot, which works and helps her to walk better.
