German Origin Baby Names

Baby Names for Boys or Girls

T.R. Humphrey
Are you expecting a newborn soon? If so, then you may feel the urgency to find just the right name for your baby. Finding the right baby name can be a little frustrating. Especially if you are not sure if you are having a boy or girl. With all the names to choose from out there it can be hard to find the right one. I have put together a small list of baby names. All of these names have a German origin and are unique. So if you are looking for a name that is different and uncommon, then check this out.

Boys Names

Bastien is a name short for Sebastian. Sebastian is more common than the name Bastien. Bastien means "revered". I like this name because it sounds more masculine than Sebastian does. Plus it is not such a mouthful. However, if you wanted you could use Sebastian as the baby name. Then, just use Bastien as the nickname.

Dedrik is pronounced DEE-drik. Dedrik is an old German as well as Danish origin. This name means "ruler of the people" or "power of the tribe". Dedrik is also spelled Dedric, Diederick, or Diedrick. This name is a strong name and wouldn't be confused with a feminine name.

Trennen is another German name and it means "divides". I really like this one because it is so unique. It is so easy to say in English. This could be the baby name you have been searching for.

Lucas is a German origin short form for the name Lucius. Lucius means "light". This name is more commonly used. However, it is a strong name and has a great meaning behind it.

Tavin is a German nickname for Gustov. Gustov and Tavin mean "royal staff". Gustov is not a very appealing name, but I like the way Tavin sounds. I know the meaning of this name is not that special but this name is different.

Girls Names

Aubrey is a German-oriented name and is one of my favorites. Aubrey means "noble" or "bear like". I love the sound of this name. It almost has a whimsical feel to it. This name is very different and not used a lot. This would make an excellent name for a baby girl.

Kerstin means "follower of Christ". It is pronounced KEHR-stin. It is a form of Christina, but Christina is used a lot more. This is a great Christian name.

Richelle is pronounced ri-SHELL. Richelle is a German form of Ricarda. This name means "rich and powerful" or "brave one". Some other spellings of Richelle are Richella, Richele, and Rochelle. This name may be more common than the others I have listed. I just like the spelling and the sound of Richelle.

Raina is pronounced RAY-nah. This name means "mighty". It is a variant of Regina or Reine which means "Queen". This is a unique sounding name. If you need something different to name your baby this fits the bill.

Lindy is a variant of Belinda, Linda, or Melinda. This name means "pretty" or "sweet". It was popular in 1960 and then 1990. Now it is not used as it was then. The name Lindy sounds cute for a baby girl, but it has also been used for a boy.

The baby name you choose should always go nicely with your babies middle name as well as the last name. Remember when choosing a baby name to choose one that will sound suitable for the child when it grows up. Maybe choose a name that is not hard to spell. I hope I have helped stir your senses on the path to finding the right baby name.
