German Solider Fired Over Training Video
Bundeswehr Dismisses One Soldier, Investigates a Second, in the Army's Latest Embarrassing Scandal
The ministry is still investigating a second soldier, the one who filmed the training video. The spokesman said it is unclear how long this investigation will take. The ministry condemned the scene in the video as unacceptable yesterday. German news broadcasters aired the footage on television over the weekend.
The instructor shouts in German to a recruit lying on the ground, saying, "You're in the Bronx, a black van pulls up in front of you, and three African-Americans and start insulting your mother in the worst ways...act." The recruit fires his machine gun several times, yelling an expletive in English several times. The instructor exhorts him to curse even louder.
The video's existence was first reported on Friday on the homepage of the German news magazine Stern. The German news channel n-tv aired excerpts of the footage on Saturday. Stern reports that the clip, which runs about 90 seconds, had been posted on a web site used by soldiers to exchange private videos, adding that a soldier who used the site saw the video and alerted his superiors.
This is the latest in a number of scandals in recent years that have damaged the image of the German army. Eighteen army instructors are presently on trial for having allegedly abused and humiliated 163 recruits in 2004. Newspapers published photos last year of German soldiers in Afghanistan posing with skulls.

This recent spate of "tattle-tale racist style", brings to mind a dilemma we studied in Philosophy class in high school, if a tree falls in a forest, and no one is around to hear it, did it make a sound? No observer, means no noise. People say disparaging things about one another, always have. What else is new? Bringing it to light just stirs up racial tensions, and does more harm than good. Best just to accept "racism" as an unfortunate part of the primitive human condition, and try to overlook it, like one tries to overlook other unpleasant bodily functions.
